Chapter 1369
[ 660 words ]
“Genetic modification? Oh, please. As if that could ever become a reality!”
Professor Moira’s lips curled into a bitter, mournful smile. “Those who maliciously research genetic modification will never meet a good end. Take me, for example.”
With that, she pulled a flash drive from her pocket and handed it to Juniper Payne.
“There’s a video on here.”
“To monitor the changes during my daughter’s modification process, I secretly installed a camera. It captures everything perfectly clearly.”
Juniper took it and casually passed it to Flint, then to Silas Blackwood.
Silas plugged it into a laptop, and the full video quickly filled the large screen.
The camera angle didn’t just show Professor Moira’s operations at the time.
It also clearly captured two children.
Juniper was asleep on the hospital bed, an IV tube taped to her arm.
But upon closer inspection, the tube didn’t even have a needle attached.
Beneath the hospital bed was a small, hidden cot.
Laying on that cot was a little girl about Juniper’s age.
She was the one with the IV needle in her arm, her blood actively flowing through the transparent tubing.
Because Professor Moira had deliberately staged the setup, aiming the lab camera right at the computer monitors, it was incredibly easy for anyone watching the feed to mistakenly believe Juniper was the one undergoing the procedure.
The truth was finally laid bare, and the crowd in the room was too stunned to speak.
So…
Juniper Payne really wasn’t some genetically modified monster. She was just born this naturally brilliant?
Wait, what?!
God, were you seeing this? How was this even fair?
“If genetic modification is actually a viable procedure, doesn’t doing something like this completely violate human ethics?”
A reporter turned their sharp focus back to Professor Moira. “How are you even fit to call yourself a doctor after pulling a stunt like this?”
“That’s exactly why karma came for me, and I lost my child,” Professor Moira said, her face ashen. “I only stepped forward today because I refused to let innocent people take the blame, especially Dr. Sommers and her husband. They endured unimaginable suffering trying to stop that genetic modification research.”
“They aren’t scum. They are heroes.”
Professor Moira swallowed hard, looking up at the people on the stage. Her voice was hoarse as she added, “Ve said everything I needed to say Back when collapsed during my pregnancy, you got me to the hospital in time, saving both my life and my daughter’s.”
“As of today, we are officially even.”
Having said her piece, Professor Moira turned and walked away under the heavy stares of the crowd.
Shanley Schwartz glanced back at Felton.
Understanding the silent command instantly, Felton led his men over to safely escort her out of the building.
“Does anyone else have any more questions?”
Juniper pulled her gaze back, checked the time, and spoke with icy precision. “Especially you, Mr. Reporter!”
The reporter pressed his lips together, instinctively shaking his head as he quietly lowered his camera lens.
“Let’s wrap this up.’
Shanley stood, interlacing his fingers with Juniper’s. His voice was smooth but dangerously cold. “From this second forward, I do not want to hear a single word of slander against my fiancée or her family. Th
you will face the consequences.”
“Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood, please get in the car,” Flint urged, immediately pulling the
door open to escort them to safety.
From start to finish, the entire press conference had remained perfectly under Juniper’s control.
It took exactly half an hour.
Not a minute more, not a minute less.
It wasn’t until the line of sports cars sped off that the reporters and onlookers finally snapped out of their daze.
Scratching their heads, their faces were etched with sheer bewilderment. “So… what’s the final verdict?”
“Are you blind?”
Someone nearby immediately chimed in:
“Juniper’s genes were never modified! She’s just a natural genius!”
“And another thing.”
“Mr. Schwartz said that from now
on-wait, no, starting from three minutes ago if anyone posts single bad word about his fiancée
online, they’re dead meat!”
Hearing that, the reporters’ survival instincts kicked in, and they scrambled to power
off their recording equipment.
They weren’t about to lose their lives over a piece of gossip!
