Chapter 1370

In the car.
Shanley gently massaged the girl’s slender fingers, his gaze overflowing with tender indulgence.
“Your parents were exhausted, so Felton is already escorting them back home.”
“Mhm.”
Juniper blinked, tilting her head up. “Let’s not go to the restaurant just yet. I need to see someone first.”
“Professor Moira?” Shanley’s warm eyes crinkled slightly at the corners. “I figured you’d want to see her, so I had her waiting for you at the restaurant.”
Juniper’s lips curled into a faint smile, her voice low and husky. “You really know everything, don’t you?”
“I’m basically a mind reader when it comes to you.”
Shanley’s expression softened, a lazy, aristocratic smirk playing on his lips. “Everything’s finally sorted out. Are you happy?”
“I think you’re the happier one here, Mr. Schwartz!”
Juniper reached up, playfully scratching under the man’s chin like she was coaxing a cat, her red lips curving upward.
Ever since the vicious rumors hit the internet, a smile hadn’t graced Shanley’s face once.
He had been walking around with a deadly, storm-cloud aura, looking like he was ready to commit murder.
And in truth, he had absolutely wanted to.
“I won’t tolerate anyone dragging your name through the mud.” Shanley pulled her
onto his lap, his hands wrapping securely around her narrow waist. His brow furrowed. “Juniper, if there is a next time, I won’t be showing any mercy.”
Heaven knew.
He had held himself back these past few weeks, and it had been pure agony.
“Deal,” Juniper murmured, leaning down to press a soft kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Shanley’s hand slid to the nape of her neck, gently holding her in place as he deepened the kiss.
At the restaurant.
When Juniper and Shanley arrived, Professor Moira was sitting at a table, looking visibly anxious.
“Why did you bring me here?”
Seeing the couple approach, Professor Moira stood up, her attitude as coldly
detached as ever. “If you’re here to thank me, don’t bother. I didn’t actually intend to save you back then.”
She had been entirely selfish, stealing Juniper’s “modification slot.”
“I’m not thanking you for the surgery.”
Juniper gestured for her to sit, taking the seat directly across from here “I’m thanking you for showing up today. Your testimony provided the evidence Leeded to clear my name. So thank you.”
Professor Moira froze, a bitter smile touching her lips. “I just wanted to clear my own conscience.”
“So did I,” Juniper replied. “Which is why I’m thanking you.”
Even though her genetic data was undeniable proof, it would have taken time to
educate the public on how to read the science.
Professor Moira’s appearance had saved her a massive headache.
She was genuinely grateful.
“Stepping into the spotlight like this might complicate your life.”
Shanley spoke up next. “If you need it, I can help relocate you and your family to somewhere safe.”
Overseas, for instance.
“I appreciate the offer, Mr. Schwartz,
but it won’t be necessary.” Professor Moira shook her head. “If I can survive the agony of losing my. daughter, the stares and whispers of strangers mean absolutely nothing to me.”

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave.”
Professor Moira stood up, ready to walk away.
“Thank you.”
Shanley watched her back, his voice dropping an octave. “If Juniper had actually been the one lying in that lab… I might never have met her.”
Professor Moira’s spine went rigid, her gaze darting to Juniper’s face.
“I’ve heard you’ve grown into a remarkable young woman. That’s good to hear.”
Perhaps, through her terrible, twisted choices, she had accidentally done one good thing after all.
“From now on, we are truly even.”
Leaving those final words hanging in the air, Professor Moira turned and walked away without looking back.
The restaurant was left with only Juniper and Shanley.
Only when the woman had completely vanished from sight did Shanley pull his gaze away.
He turned back to the girl beside him. “The thank-yous are over. Now eat your food, you polite little thing.”
Juniper scrolled through the news on her phone while she ate. Every single topic relating to her “genetic modification” had been scrubbed completely clean.
It was finally peaceful.
“Now your parents can focus on recovering their health without anyone bothering them.” Shanley placed a perfectly prepared piece of shrimp on her plate. Because next, we have much more important business to take care of.”
