Chapter 1378
[ 776 words ]
The contents displayed on the screens behind the four candidates played out in rapid succession:
Extramarital affairs.
Domestic violence.
Severe alcoholism and brutal physical assaults.
Massive embezzlement of public funds.
Photos, security footage, and bank statements scrolled relentlessly across the massive displays.
“What is the meaning of this?!”
Seeing their darkest secrets broadcasted to the room, the four candidates nearly jumped out of their skin. They whipped around, screaming frantically at the control booth. “Who put someone else’s files on our screens?!”
The very next second.
The faces in the incriminating videos were zoomed in and enhanced. They belonged, unmistakably, to the four men standing on the stage.
The auditorium erupted into total pandemonium, the roar of shocked whispers deafening.
The press corps frantically adjusted their camera lenses, paralyzed by indecision over whether they were even allowed to broadcast this.
It was absolute insanity.
These degenerates actually thought they could be the Executive Chief?!
“Uh…”
Watching the carnage unfold, Burt furiously scratched his head, turning a bewildered look toward Luella. “Mr. Langley… tell me you didn’t do this.”
“I merely provided the public with the unfiltered truth.” Luella offered a serene, chilling smile.
The position of Stellara Country’s Executive Chief demanded absolutely flawless moral and ethical standing.
The screens refused to shut off.
The four candidates stood frozen in panicked humiliation, while the members of the Electoral Committee looked like they were going to be sick.
With a catastrophe of this magnitude, how could they possibly proceed with the live broadcast and open the polls to the public?
“What are we supposed to do now?”
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee surveyed the wildly out-of-control assembly hall, his face a terrifying shade of purple.
Outside the heavy doors, international journalists had their cameras primed, eagerly waiting to interview the newly minted Executive Chief.
Were they supposed to walk out there and announce that all four candidates were criminal degenerates?!
They hadn’t even finished cleaning up the radioactive fallout from Lachlan’s implosion, and now this massive scandal was detonating right in their faces.
Did Stellara Country have any shred of dignity left on the global stage?!
“Chairman Anson, how do we handle this?” the other panicked members of the Electoral Committee demanded. “What exactly do we tell the press?”
“Since we haven’t officially released the candidate roster to the public yet, I move that we restart the process with an internal vote,” someone desperately suggested. “Agreed.”
Chairman Anson nodded grimly, turning to his aide. “Bring me the preliminary vetting list.”
Regardless of who won, the
Executive Chief role came with a probationary period. If more
skeletons tumbled out of the closet later, the Efectoral Committee still retained the authority to revoke the appointment. sŵnovels
Right now, they just needed to survive the next twenty-four hours. This was an unmitigated disaster.
The aide quickly returned with the dossiers. Just as the Electoral Committee members began fiercely debating their next move, Luella’s voice cut cleanly through the chaos.
“Chairman Anson, I have the perfect candidate for the Executive Chief position.”
“?”
Chairman Anson snapped his head
toward Luella, his brow furrowing deeply. “Are you attempting to nominate yourself, Mr. Langley? I’m afraid that until the investigation into your father is conclusively closedy you are completely ineligible=”
“I am not nominating myself.”
Luella stood up, radiating absolute, commanding authority. “I have zero interest in the Executive Chief seat. The man I am officially putting forward is Mr. Burt Dalton.”
Burt practically bolted out of his chair, trembling like a leaf in a hurricane.
The committee members certainly recognized Burt’s name.
He had just single-handedly secured massive, highly lucrative trade agreements with two major continents. His momentum was undeniable.
However—
He had always been a quiet, background player within the Political Council. They barely knew anything about his actual leadership capabilities.
“Mr. Dalton successfully brokered two historic transnational alliances, but currently, those contracts are only locked in for a single year,” Luella continued smoothly.
“If he is elevated to the candidacy, I am entirely confident that both continents will be highly motivated to extend those agreements indefinitely.”
“When Mr. Dalton and I traveled to Subterra Vanguard in Australis to negotiate the terms, their leadership explicitly stated that his exceptional capabilities were the driving factor behind the deal.”
“?”
Burt blinked rapidly, shooting Luella a look of pure, bewildered panic.
When the hell did that happen?!
He hadn’t even set foot inside Subterra Vanguard during that trip; he had literally slept in his hotel room the entire time!
“Furthermore, this is merely a nomination for candidacy. The citizens of this country are not blind; they will know exactly who the right choice is.”
“Chairman Anson, the broadcast timer is ticking down. The national voting portals are about to go live Luella’s expression remained perfectly unbothered, her tone grounded and resolute. “I have Mr. Dalton’s complete dossier right here. I assure you, his record is infinitely cleaner than the four men currently standing on that stage.”
