Chapter 1379
[ 604 words ]
Chairman Anson flipped through the document, stunned by the sheer length of the resume. It was dozens of pages long.
Grassroots campaigns, public welfare projects…
How had he never heard of any of this before?
At that moment, someone nearby whispered, “Three minutes until the live broadcast begins.”
Chairman Anson glanced at Luella, then at Burt Dalton.
Fine.
They would just add Dalton to the roster and let him show his face to the public.
Ultimately, Burt Dalton’s name was officially entered into the candidate pool.
The broadcasting crew immediately flashed the names and resumes of all four candidates onto the massive screen.
The studio lights flared to life.
The cameras locked onto the four of them, and the global broadcast commenced.
Dalton had thoroughly memorized the briefing Luella had provided, making his introduction incredibly smooth. Since his speech was deeply authentic, it resonated far more powerfully than the rehearsed platitudes of the others. The audience erupted into genuine, heartfelt applause.
Sitting in the audience, Luella Langley quietly watched Burt Dalton, a slow smile curving her lips.
Not bad.
She hadn’t chosen the wrong person.
Checking the live polling data, Luella wasn’t surprised to see Dalton’s votes skyrocketing past the competition.
She had anticipated this.
Dalton had worked tirelessly on the ground, int
ting with countless ever
citizens. When someone truly cared about the people, the people would naturally elevate them to the top.
Beyond the official votes, a massive wave of online support was rallying behind Dalton.
Right then, Kate suddenly leaned in, her face pale. “Mr. Langley, something’s happening online.”
“What is it?”
Luella took the phone and saw that Borealia’s media had just dug up her real identity.
The scandal surrounding Lachlan Langley had already blown up, and with today’s election… it was only a matter of time before she was dragged into the spotlight.
“Mr. Langley, are you two actually dating?” Kate asked, blinking her wide, curious eyes.
“Why?”
“You have great taste!” Kate answered without hesitation. “I absolutely love Jimmie too. He’s gorgeous, has an amazing body, and he’s an incredible actor Mr. Langley, do you think you could get me his autograph?”
Luella turned her head, a faint smile playing on her lips as her eyes narrowed
slightly. “Aren’t you focusing on the wrong thing here?”
“Huh?” Kate blinked, snapping back to reality. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Langley! But what are we going to do about the online rumors?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?” Kate furrowed her brow
in confusion. “The situation with the Executive Chief is already a mess. If this kind of scandal out break about you, it’s going to ruin your
position in Stellara Country
In the worst-case scenario, she could be expelled from the Political Council.
“You heard me. Ignore it,” Luella repeated calmly. “The voting results are in. Let’s go congratulate Mr. Dalton.”
“Yes, sir.”
Kate glanced at the polling numbers on her laptop. Burt Dalton had secured the absolute majority.
The voice of the people had spoken.
Chairman Anson hadn’t expected
met
Dalton to be this overwhelmingly popular. But thinking back to his resume hardly anyone in Stellara Country had endured the kind of grueling work he had. It made sense that the public chose him.
“Congratulations,” Luella said, extending her hand with a slight smile. “Executive Chief Dalton.”
“Thank you.”
Burt looked at Luella, his eyes glistening with emotion. “I have to give interviews to the foreign press and deliver my speech. Let’s celebrate properly once this is over.”
“There’s no need.”
Luella shook her head, her smile unwavering. “I have a few personal matters to tie up. Once they’re handled, I’ll be leaving Stellara Country.”
After Dalton exited the hall, the cameras from the domestic press immediately swarmed Luella.
“Mr. Langley, how do you explain the news online? Are you really involved with the actor from Borealia?”
“Same-sex relationships are strictly forbidden in Stellara Country!”
“Mr. Langley, please give us a statement!”
