Chapter 1380
[ 702 words ]
“Also, do you have any comments regarding your father’s situation?”
“Were you involved in any of the Executive Chief’s actions?”
“Mr. Langley…”
Looking at the dense sea of camera lenses and listening to the endless barrage of overlapping questions, Luella slowly raised her eyes. She pulled a formal letter of resignation from her pocket.
“As of this moment, I no longer have any ties to Stellara Country or to Lachlan Langley.”
A resignation?
The crowd gasped in shock. Even though Lachlan was ruined, Luella still held a significant position within the Council. As long as she made no mistakes, no one could touch her. Not to mention, she was the one who had just propelled the new Executive Chief into power. With backing like that, why resign?!
“Debts must be paid, and crimes must face justice. I expect the Bureau of Investigation to thoroughly probe Lachlan Langley’s offenses. I hope they won’t wrongly accuse an innocent person, but I certainly hope they won’t let a guilty one slip through the cracks.”
“Are you not going to defend him?” The reporters were utterly baffled. “He’s currently claiming innocence and has reportedly hired lawyers.”
“Defend him?”
Luella tugged off the tie that had been suffocating her and tossed it into a nearby trash can, then unbuttoned the top two buttons of her dress shirt. A mocking smile spread across her strikingly handsome, elegant face as she spoke with measured precision. “Driving his first wife to death, abusing his own child, doing whatever it takes to claw his way to the top-how many despicable things has he done?”
“The evidence and witnesses are all there. Promise me you won’t let him see the light of day again, alright?”
The reporters were entirely stunned by this turn of events.
His own child?
Well, yes, they had seen the evidence floating around online. To secure his place in the Council, Lachlan had shamelessly pursued a university professor’s wife. The moment he had her, his true colors showed. He kept mistresses on the side, ultimately driving his first wife to a depressive end.
It was ruthlessly cruel.
“And one more thing.” Luella looked up, meeting the confused stares of the press. Her red lips curled into a slight smile. “I am a woman. So what exactly is the problem with me dating a man?”
She finally didn’t have to pinch her throat to sound like a guy.
God, it felt amazing.
A woman?
The moment those words dropped, not only the reporters but the nearby staff practically had their jaws hit the floor.
Wait, did they hear that right? Luella just admitted she was a woman!
As she spoke, Luella pulled out a detailed medical report from her pocket. The data clearly verified her biological gender.
“To secure his grip on the Executive Chief position, Lachlan Langley used my mother’s life to force me to masquerade as a male.” Luella took a tissue and wiped away the heavy, contouring makeup she always wore, revealing a stunningly radiant, luminous complexion that looked inherently feminine. She looked
deeply wronged. “I had no choice. To
survive, I had to endure it.”
She looked so genuinely heartbroken, her eyes reddening as if tears were about to spill over.
“Have you asked everything you wanted to know?”
Looking straight into the cameras, Luella let a soft smile play on her lips. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave.”
The crowd was left entirely speechless.
If she was a woman, there was no legal ground to pursue her for her relationship. And whatever crimes Lachlan had committed had nothing to do with her stellara Country truly had no leverage over her.
“Are you just going to walk away without caring about your father at all?” one morally righteous reporter asked, glaring coldly.
“Hmm?”
Luella stopped in her tracks, turning her head to look at the reporter. She enunciated every word with sharp. ** clarity. “Sure. When he dies, do me a favor and let me know. I’ll come back for the funeral. Thanks.”
“Goodbye, everyone. Forever.”
Leaving those words hanging in the air, Luella strode confidently out of the venue, completely unbothered by the stares.
The crowd stood frozen.
Had Luella lost her mind from the trauma of Lachlan’s downfall?
Kate slapped her own forehead and immediately chased after her.
“Mr. Lang-“
Catching sight of Luella’s now visibly feminine face, Kate swallowed her words mid-
sentence, nervously correcting herself, “M-Ms. Langley!”
