“What is it?”
Luella stopped and looked at Kate, who was panting from the run. Her voice was now clear and melodic. “You received the Subterra Vanguard contract, right?”
“Yes.” Kate nodded, staring fixedly at Luella, her eyes bright with emotion. “Ms. Langley, thank you.”
“You didn’t expose me. This is your compensation,” Luella said with a faint smile. “Just to be safe, you should leave Stellara Country as soon as possible.”
“I will.”
Kate nodded firmly. “Ms. Langley, you look absolutely gorgeous now that you’re not in disguise.”
“Who’s better looking, me or Jimmie?”
Kate’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly backpedaled. “Ms. Langley, I don’t want his autograph anymore! Please don’t misunderstand!”
“It’s fine.”
Luella shrugged, her eyes lighting up with amusement at the mention of him. “I have photos of his abs. I’ll get him to sign one for you later.”
Kate’s jaw dropped. Ms. Langley was incredibly generous!
After parting ways with Kate, Luella headed straight to the Bureau of Investigation.
Not only was Lachlan locked up, but Yvonne and Esme had also been arrested and were currently undergoing interrogation.
“What are you doing here? To mock me?”
Lachlan had watched the entire election broadcast and knew Luella had exposed her true identity. He fully realized he had been completely outplayed.
“I’m here to see what total defeat looks like, of course.” Luella lowered her eyes, staring at her defeated, furious father, and spoke slowly. “All your schemes amounted to nothing. I’m sure my mother is smiling down from heaven right now.”
“Get out! Get the hell out! I never want to see you again!” Lachlan roared like a madman. “I might have lost everything, but you won’t get off easy either!”
“You’re wrong.”
Luella’s lips curled into a cold, serene smile. “How could I have nothing? I have a family who loves
me and I have the main I love you e
the one with absolutely no one watching your back.”
“I just went to see Yvonne and Esme. To save their own skin, they’ve pinned a
mountain of crimes entirely on you.”
“Tsk. You guys truly are a family!”
Lachlan’s eyes were bloodshot. Those words were salt poured directly into his open wounds. He was consumed by rage and regret, yet entirely powerless.
“This is the last time I’ll ever visit you.” Luella checked the time, her lips curling into an emotionless smirk. “The next time I see you, it’ll probably be at your funeral.”
“Farewell.”
Leaving those words behind, Luella turned and walked away.
“Hahaha…”
Watching his daughter’s uncompromising silhouette
disappear, Lachlan slumped back in his chair, laughing out loud. But as he laughed, tears slipped from the corners of his eyes. Whether they were f regret, fear, or pure
hatred, it was impossible to tell.
And to Luella, it didn’t matter at all anymore.
Not far down the hall, Luella bumped right into Yvonne, who had just been escorted out of an interrogation room.
Her face was pale and haggard, her hair a tangled mess. There wasn’t a trace left of the refined, elegant socialite she used to be.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you!” Yvonne snarled viciously the moment she saw Luella.
“Will I?” Luella smiled, her tone perfectly level. “Maybe. But I highly doubt you’ll live long enough to see it!”
Yvonne’s face drained of even more
color, true fear flickering in her eyes. During Lachlan’s reign, they had thrown their weight.around and affended countless people. Now that they had fallen from grace, the line of people waiting for revenge would be endless.
“Remember what you said when you flaunted your pregnant belly in front of my dying mother?”
Luella took a step closer, locking eyes with the woman, and delivered her words with surgical precision. “The last one standing is the winner!”
Yvonne clenched her jaw, refusing to dwell on the memory.
“So, what do you think?” Luella brushed off a nonexistent crease on her clothes, her
red lips parting to deliver the final, crushing blow. “Looks like I won this game after
all!”
