Chapter 1386
[ 620 words ]
Staring at the person in front of him, Jimmie looked completely dazed, struggling to process the reality of the situation.
After all, his entire memory of Luella was tied to her masculine disguise, and the woman standing before him was breathtakingly beautiful.
Though, looking closely, their features were identical.
Wait.
Not identical. It was the same person.
“You”
Jimmie’s brows knit together. He took a hesitant, careful step toward her, his gaze locked intensely on her face. “Luella? Is that you?”
“Ugh!” Luella crossed her arms over her chest, her beautiful face scrunched up in a scowl. “Who else would I be?!”
Jimmie closed the distance between them, finally taking in every detail of her radiant features. Overwhelmed, he pulled her into a desperate, crushing embrace. “You’re finally back.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Luella muttered, wrapping her arms around his waist but still grumbling. “What happened to ‘I don’t like being touched’? You’re holding me pretty tight right now!”
“And you pushed me!”
The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she got. She pinched his side sharply. “I hit the table and my back is killing me. You owe me!”
You hit the table?
Jimmie frowned deeply. Noticing the curious stares from the surrounding staff, he grabbed her hand and practically dragged her toward his private lounge.
“Hey!”
Luella was still wearing heels, stumbling awkwardly as she tried to keep up. Seeing this, Jimmie stopped, swept her off her feet, and carried her bridal-style. Luella blinked, startled.
Before she could fully process it, the lounge door clicked open. Jimmie carried her straight into the bedroom, set her gently on the large bed, and immediately reached for the hem of her dress.
“What are you doing?”
Luella scrambled backward, eyeing him with extreme suspicion. She wasn’t happy. “Is this all you ever think about every time you see me?!”
Jimmie’s expression remained dangerously serious, his hands not stopping.
“Jimmie Tate, if you touch me again, I swear to God I’ll—”
Before Luella could finish her threat, Jimmie stopped. His eyes dropped to her waist, his face clouded with immense guilt. “Does it hurt?”
“Huh?” Luella blinked, realizing her mistake. “You were undressing me to check the bruise?”
“What else would I be doing?” Jimmie reached out, his thumb gently tracing her cheek. His voice was devastatingly soft. “Am I really that much of a beast in your eyes?”
“Yes!”
Thinking back to his insatiable appetite in the past, Luella puffed out her cheeks and accused him boldly. “Don’t even try to deny it!”
Jimmie stiffened, entirely unable to argue with that.
“Wait here.”
He pulled the blanket over her, walked over to the medical kit, and dug out a bottle of anti-inflammatory ointment.
“I just bumped it. It’s fine.” Luella lay on her stomach, the hem of her dress pushed
up to her waist, her face burning so hot it could rival a tomato.
“I’m sorry, Jimmie murmured, his heart aching as he stared at the faint purple bruising blooming on her pale skin reacted without thinking. You should have hit me back.
“Hit you back?” Luella scoffed, her tone lazy but arrogant. “If I hit you, you’d be dead.”
After carefully applying the ointment, Jimmie set the kit aside and gathered her securely into his arms, his voice turning husky. “This feels a little unreal.”
“A little.” Luella leaned against his chest, completely surrounded by his clean, familiar scent. Unable to resist, she reached down to trace the rigid lines of his abs, muttering softly, “Nope. It’s real.”
Jimmie let out a low chuckle, catching her wandering hand. “Is everything in Stellara
Country resolved? Are you done going back?”
“I have to go back eventually.”
Luella opened her eyes, gazing up at
his flawless profile, her voice
softening, “Doesn’t the ugly
son-in-law eventually have to meet the mother-in-law? Tpromised
Megan I’d bring you back so she and my mom could properly look you over!”
She had mentioned Megan to him before.
