She wasn’t her biological mother, but she was just as important.
“Alright,” Jimmie agreed without a second thought. “Whenever you want to go back,
we’ll go.”
“The mess in Stellara Country is handled, but your life is completely chaotic right now.”
Luella rested her hands against his firm chest, looking down at him with a raspy voice. “Jimmie, I think I dragged you down with me.”
“You didn’t.”
Jimmie pulled her tighter against him, pressing a warm kiss to her forehead. His voice was rich and soothing. “We’re in this together. Whatever comes, we face it as a team.”
“Besides…” He smirked, his tone turning playfully arrogant, “Is there a law against me having a serious girlfriend?”
Luella thought about it for a second, then shook her head firmly. “No law against that.”
“I’ll handle the fallout,” Jimmie said, pulling the blanket up to cover them both securely. “You’ve been on a plane all day. You must be exhausted. Sleep first. We’ll figure everything else out when you wake up.”
“Okay.”
Luella felt like she was forgetting something important, but she had been running on fumes for days. The exhaustion finally caught up with her, and she obediently closed her eyes.
She would remember it when she woke up.
After Luella drifted off to sleep, Jimmie carefully slipped out from under the blanket, threw on a shirt, and quietly exited the room.
The food and sleep on airplanes were notoriously terrible. He planned to head down to the kitchen and whip up something delicious so she would have hot food waiting for her the moment she woke up.
He stepped out of the room, taking long strides down the hallway. After a few steps, his foot suddenly connected with something solid.
Jimmie looked down, only to find a five- or six-year-old boy curled up in a ball in the middle of the corridor.
Jared had been sound asleep. Jolted awake by the kick, he rubbed his eyes and glared groggily at the culprit.

His brother-in-law?
He was incredibly handsome, sure, but would he bully Luella?
“Who are you?”
Seeing the kid staring a hole right through him, Jimmie frowned slightly. “What are you doing out here?”
He was quite certain there were no children living at the Sigma Network base.
Jared sprang to his feet. Unfortunately, he barely reached Jimmie’s thighs, so he had to crane his neck all the way back to glare up at him puffing out his chest to look as intimidating as possible. Um her bodyguard!” .net

Jimmie was completely bewildered. Looking at the tiny, fiercely clenched fists of this
little munchkin, a smile tugged at his lips. “Whose bodyguard?”
With a height like that, how was he going to protect anyone? Could he even win a fight against a house cat?
“Luella’s!”
Jared glared fiercely at Jimmie, practically shouting, “Luella is my real sister! We share the same dad!”
Jimmie froze for a second. Looking closely at the kid’s face, it suddenly clicked. Luella’s half-brother?
What was he doing here?!
“You’re Jimmie Tate, right? My sister’s boyfriend?” Jared demanded aggressively.
“I am.”
Jimmie smiled, crouching down on one knee to meet the boy at eye level. He held out a hand. “Hello. Let me introduce myself. I’m Jimmie, Ms. Luella’s fiancé.”
“Fiancé?”
Jared blinked, a glimmer of adorable confusion crossing his clear eyes. He mumbled, “What does fiancé mean? Does that mean you’re her future husband?” “You could say that.”
Still at eye level, Jimmie softened his tone significantly. “Your sister is still sleeping. Let’s not wake her up How about 1 take you

“Are you trying to bribe me?”
Jared’s defenses shot back to maximum. He took two steps back, glaring fiercely.
“Give it up! I’d rather starve to death than eat a single bite of your food!”
Until he confirmed this guy was actually a good person, he had to keep his distance.
He had to protect his sister!
Ten minutes later.
Jared sat at the dining table, happily clutching a massive fried chicken drumstick. He looked up at Jimmie
with glowing eyes.
