Chapter 1533

[ 653 words ]

If he refused to step down, what could those old fossils on the board possibly do to him?

“Mr. Sherwin.”

The secretary knocked on the door and approached with trembling hands, clutching

a stack of contracts. “Two more companies just canceled their partnerships with us. Over the past few days, we’ve lost two-thirds of our clients.”

At this rate, the company’s cash flow wouldn’t last much longer.

“Get the manager of Helios Trust Bank on the phone,” Malcolm ordered with a dark expression after scanning the documents.

No matter what, he had spent decades clawing his way up in Borealia.

A starving camel was still bigger than a horse. He refused to believe he couldn’t survive this crisis.

“Hello.”

A voice came through the receiver. “May I ask who is…”

“Hello, this is the CEO of Sherwin Group,” Malcolm said, pasting on a fawning smile.

“We had dinner together a while back, do you remember—”

Beep, beep, beep…

Before he could finish, the other party hung up.

Damn it!

Refusing to give up, Malcolm tried calling the heads of several other banks.

Without exception.

The moment they heard his name, every single one of them either hung up or outright rejected him.

By the end, no one was even picking up his calls anymore.

Crash-

Furious, Malcolm swept everything off his desk onto the floor.

If he ever caught the person spreading those rumors, he’d make them pay dearly.

Just as he was having a total meltdown.

The secretary knocked on the door again, shivering as he spoke, “Mr. Sherwin, Ms. Payne and Mr. Schwartz are here.”

“I’m not seeing anyone!”

Assuming it was more reporters digging for gossip, Malcolm snapped in exasperation before suddenly pausing. “Wait, did you say Ms. Payne and Mr. Schwartz?”

“Yes.”

The secretary nodded, lowering his voice further. “The former young lady of the house, and Mr. Shanley Schwartz, CEO of Schwartz Group.”

Having worked at the company for years, the secretary naturally knew about Juniper’s history with the Sherwin family.

When the old chairman was still alive, he would frequently bring young Ms. Juniper to the office.

She was incredibly brilliant, able to pinpoint operational flaws with just a few sentences.

She often helped the staff organize proposals and brainstormed ideas. Sigh.

Those were the most prosperous, glorious years for the company.

And then later, the old chairman passed away, and after, the young lady was kicked out of the Sherwin family, the company began a cursed, downward spiral.

Even without this massive scandal, they probably wouldn’t have survived more than

a few years anyway.

Thinking about the old chairman’s life’s work turning to ash, the secretary felt a pang of heartache.

Juniper and Shanley?

Why would they suddenly show up at the company?

Could it be that, out of respect for the old man, they were here to bail him out?

At that thought…

The dark cloud over Malcolm instantly vanished, and he ordered his secretary, “Treat them well. I’ll be right there.”

In the reception room.

Juniper looked around, her eyes landing on the company’s history timeline displayed on the wall.

Among it was a photo of her grandfather.

He looked as warm and gentle as ever, smiling kindly.

“Grandpa loved to smile. Whenever he smiled, his eyes would turn into little crescents.”

Juniper looked at Shanley, a bitter

expression crossing her face. “I used

eoke with him, telling him to be

careful, that if I ran off he wouldn’t be able to find me.” fo FindNovel.net

“But in the end… I was the one who lost him.”

Juniper’s nose stung, and her eyes grew red. “Shanley, I miss Grandpa.”

“I know.”

Shanley pulled Juniper into his arms. Remembering the time he was used as a “grandpa” substitute, he comforted her, “I wish I had met you sooner then I could have met him in person, and he could have felt at ease entrusting you to me.”

“Dream on.”

Juniper glared at him, feeling a lot better. “I was underage back then. If you had

dared say that to him, Grandpa would have broken your legs.”

“Did Grandpa really love you that much?”

Shanley tapped her nose, his voice husky. “It’s okay. I’ll love you even more than he

did, baby.”

Always. Only you.
