Chapter 1283
[ 617 words ]
By the time Juniper arrived, Luella was sitting in a café, staring blankly out the
window at the new sports car, completely miserable.
“Let’s trace your steps. Where could it be?” Juniper prompted gently.
“The plane, the restaurant, and…” Luella paused, a thought striking her. She quickly dialed Jimmie’s number.
“Hey, thanks for the car,” she said politely before cutting to the chase. “Did you happen to see a red earring in your car?”
“An earring?” Jimmie was lounging on a sofa, legs crossed gracefully, rolling the very same red earring between his fingers. “What earring? Is it important?”
“Yes!” she blurted out, her voice actually trembling. “It’s a keepsake from the person I love most in the world!”
The person he loves most?
A man or a woman?
“Haven’t seen it.” Jimmie’s hand stilled. His dark eyes darkened further as his voice dropped to a low rasp. “I’ll have to look for it. I’ll let you know if it turns up.”
“Thanks.”
It was probably gone forever. Luella’s heart sank so fast even the multi-million-dollar sports car couldn’t cheer her up.
“It’s fine if I can’t find it,” she mumbled, looking up at Juniper with red-rimmed eyes. “At least I won’t have to look at it every day and remember how brutally my mom died.”
“It’ll get easier.” Juniper leaned in and gently patted her head. “All the pain will pass. When you’re living a good life, she’ll be happy for you.”
Luella sniffled, staring at her friend. “Yeah.”
On location for a commercial shoot, Jimmie received a text from Juniper asking him to search his car one more time.
Jimmie: [He said it’s from his lover.]
Juniper: [Yes.]
Jimmie tugged at his collar in frustration. What was this cheap fabric? It felt like it was choking him.
A lover? Remembering the massive folder of male models with eight-pack abs Luella had saved on her phone, Jimmie almost laughed out loud. What a great act of devotion.
Just as he was typing out a reply

more days a new text popped up:
Juniper: [It’s his mother’s.]
“?” Jimmie’s eye twitched violently. He never would have guessed that the person Luella loved most was her mother.
Juniper: [Without that earring, he won’t be able to sleep tonight.]
Jimmie pressed his lips together, pulling the earring out of his pocket. [I’ll have my guys look for it.]
Two minutes later.
[Found it.]
[But I’m shooting on location in the mountains. I won’t be back for a couple of days. How do I get it to him?]
The set was deep in the hills; getting in and out was a nightmare.
Juniper: [Send me the location. He’ll come pick it up himself.]
As soon as she got the address, Luella took off toward the set. The commercial was being filmed at the very top of a rugged peak.
By the time she scrambled her way up, she felt like she had lost half her lifespan She was just about to ask around for Jimmie when she looked up and almost got a nosebleed.
Not too far away, Jimmie was standing in the golden light of the setting sun, completely shirtless, wearing only a pair of white trousers.
The sunset cast a warm, radiant glow over his skin, making him look utterly breathtaking.
Luella unconsciously slowed her steps, her eyes glued to his body.
So the internet rumors were true. He really did have a flawless eight-pack and sharp V-lines. She had always thought he looked a bit learn clothes and assumed his photos were heavily photoshopped.
But damn. The guy was built.
As she stood there staring, entirely hypnotized, her heart began to hammer wildly against her ribs.
“What the hell!” Luella slapped a hand over her chest in a panic. “Stop it, you traitor. Why are you beating so fast?”
Naturally, her heart only pounded harder.
