Chapter 1338
[ 593 words ]
“Then why is he acting like Luella’s little lapdog?!”
Esme glared viciously at the screen, her eyes bulging with rage.
“Forget it.”
Yvonne rubbed her temples, suppressing the urge to throttle the brat. Her voice dropped low. “Once our plan is complete and she secures the candidate position, we can slowly discipline him.”
“Fine.”
Esme reluctantly agreed. Sooner or later, she was going to destroy Luella.
The election officially began.
Exactly as Luella had anticipated, Burt received almost zero votes.
The person with the most votes was Lachlan’s right-hand man.
“I vote for Burt…”
As Luella revealed her ballot, confused murmurs instantly broke out across the
room.
What was going on?
Why on earth had the young master voted for Burt Dalton out of nowhere?
Didn’t he know that the Executive Chief despised Burt the most?
Doing this was basically openly defying the Executive Chief!
“?”
Lachlan was utterly shocked. He glared at Luella, his voice laced with anger. “What are you doing?”
He had calculated everything perfectly.
Luella’s vote was supposed to go to his confidant, sealing the victory.
But by pulling this stunt, there was now a tie!
“Father, there’s a reason I voted for Mr. Dalton.”
Luella grabbed the microphone, her clear voice ringing out. “I had been personally overseeing the partnership with Subterra Vanguard in Australis. But somewhere along the line, something went wrong, and they suddenly backed out.”
What? Backed out?
Hearing this, the officials’ faces drained of color.
Subterra Vanguard was incredibly powerful, with massive global industries.
If Stellara Country could secure this partnership, and combine it with their previous
ties to the Schwartz Group, their future would be limitless.
They had all been eagerly awaiting the final results. Who would have thought it had fallen through?!
“They backed out?”
Even Lachlan was caught off guard, trying hard to maintain his composure. “What happened?”
And what did this have to do with the election?
“Don’t panic, Father.”
Luella smirked, speaking unhurriedly. “Later on, Burt took over the negotiations, and he managed to close the deal.”
“???”
Every pair of eyes in the room instantly locked onto Burt.
Burt was forced to stand up.
Honestly, he was terrible at lying. But remembering that a promotion meant funding for his projects.
He choked down his anxiety and feigned confidence. “That’s right, I closed the deal!”
Mr. Langley had already shown him the partnership contract.
All they needed was the final signatures, and the deal was done.
He was practically reaping all the rewards without doing any of the work.
He absolutely couldn’t throw Mr. Langley under the bus now.
“You?”
The crowd stared at Burt in utter disbelief, gasping.
They were just as shocked as if a pig had suddenly given birth to a cow.
“Y-yes,” Burt swallowed hard, stammering slightly.
Seeing him panic so much he could barely speak, Luella shook her head in amusement and seamlessly took over “The other party also stated that whether they sign or not depends entirely on Stellara Country’s attitude.”
“From now on, this partnership requires Burt to oversee it directly With his current low rank, Subterra
Vanguard is understandably concerned…
Luella looked right at Lachlan,
completely ignoring his dark, furious.
ession, and said again: Father
what do you think?
Lachlan knew exactly what she was implying.
If they wanted this partnership, he had to give a “specific position” to Burt.
But that position was one he had specially created, one with immense authority.
Giving it to Burt was virtually the same as making him Vice Executive Chief.
Burt was stubbornly honest and impossible to control. He could never be used as a pawn.
This was a massive problem.
“Oh right, Burt, how much time did they give us to decide?”
Luella looked at Burt, deliberately prompting him. “The deadline is tonight at midnight, right?”
“Right!”
Burt quickly chimed in.
“Father, you are the Executive Chief. The decision is entirely yours to make!”
