Chapter 1345
[ 602 words ]
“So, you know Luella is a woman?” Juniper asked, swallowing hard, her voice a little hoarse.
“I do,” Jimmie nodded, choosing full honesty. “I found out the very first night.”
“Juniper, it wasn’t my fault!” Luella practically jumped off the sofa, pointing an accusing finger at Jimmie. “I was drunk, and he stripped me!”
Jimmie: “You were drunk and threw up all over yourself. I was forced to take your clothes off.”
Luella: “Did you or did you not take my clothes off?”
Jimmie: “I did.”
Luella: “And after that, the secret was out! And then…”
And then one thing led to another, and they were inexplicably together.
“Juniper, I swear I wasn’t trying to hide it from you. It all just happened so fast, and I was terrified you wouldn’t be able to handle it.” Luella sidled over to Juniper, nervously tugging at her sleeve. “If you’re mad, just hit Jimmie. It’s his fault anyway.” Jimmie was speechless. What a wonderfully supportive fiancée.
“Handle what?” Juniper stayed quiet for a long moment before finally speaking.
“Handle your friend suddenly becoming family,” Luella mumbled, keeping her head down. “You’re not mad at me, are you?”
“I’m not.” Juniper looked at her, pausing for a few seconds before a soft smile touched her lips. “I’m just surprised you two moved so fast. A proposal already?”
“Does anyone else know about the gender thing?”
“No one besides the people in this room,” Luella bit her lip. “That’s exactly why I was too scared to tell you. I didn’t want to cause any trouble.”
“Why would I be mad?” Juniper’s eyes softened, her gaze resting warmly on Luella’s face. “I’m just glad you’re happy, Mrs. Tate.”
*Mrs. Tate?*
Hearing the title, Luella’s cheeks instantly burned a bright crimson. She shot a remarkably shy glance in Jimmie’s direction.
“Don’t look at me right now.” Jimmie pressed his lips together, his voice dropping low. “You might want to check on Shanley. I think he’s about to short-circuit.”
At that, all three of them turned to look at the man sitting beside them. His face was stone cold, his expression dangerously unreadable.
*Crap.*
They had totally forgotten Shanley didn’t know the truth.
“Uh.” Juniper rubbed her nose and quickly sat back down next to him, explaining softly, “Actually… Luella is a woman. We just never told you. Her identity is highly sensitive, so we couldn’t risk it leaking out.
“So every time w
was losing my mind with jealousy, you were just sitting there enjoying the show?” Shanley glared at the girl next to him, his face dark. “You were looking at me like was a complete idiot, weren’t you?”

“A little bit,” Juniper answered, unapologetically confident. “I’m sorry. You’ll forgive
me, right?”
“You bet I will!”
Watching her answer her own question, Shanley almost laughed out of sheer frustration.
“This had nothing to do with Juniper. If you need to hit someone, hit me.”
Luella offered an awkward, apologetic smile. “I was the one deliberately provoking you every single time, anyway.”
Hearing that, Shanley slowly stood up.
Jimmie immediately stood up as well, pulling Luella behind him and eyeing Shanley with open caution.
“Ms. Langley. If I’ve ever offended you in the past, please don’t take it to heart.”
Shanley completely shifted gears,
extending his hand with a charming,
“Since we’re all family m-going to
how if im going to punch anyonË,
it’s going to be Jimmie.”
If he had known she was a girl, he wouldn’t have been nearly so venomous toward
her.
“Oh?” Luella quickly shook his hand, laughing awkwardly. “Yeah, that works for me. What do you think, Jimmie?”
Shanley turned to Jimmie, a provocative smirk tugging at his lips.
Jimmie glanced back at Luella, gritting his teeth as he forced out a single word: “Fine!”
Shanley mentally tallied the score: *Whipped boyfriend alert +1.*
