Chapter 1393
[ 563 words ]
Having said her piece, Theia let out a heavy sigh of relief.
Phew~ Thank goodness her daughter-in-law was actually a girl. Getting used to a male one would have genuinely taken some mental gymnastics.
“Deal.” Juniper arched a brow, flashing a lazy, wicked smile. “Teaching people
lessons is my specialty.”
“Jimmie, come here for a second. We need to talk to you,” Silas said, pulling his son off to the side.
“Sure.”
Jimmie gave Luella’s hand a reassuring squeeze before following his dad.
“I’ll go cut up some fruit.”
Shanley tactfully excused himself, leaving the “bros turned sisters” to catch up in private.
“Juniper!”
Finally able to openly sit next to her best friend and get clingy, Luella was vibrating with excitement. “If I hug you right now, that fox Shanley won’t glare daggers at me anymore!”
“Ahhhh, you have no idea how hard I had to hold back lately. I was dying to see him drown in jealousy.”
“Come here, let big sis give you a kiss.”
*Thwack-*
Just as Luella puckered her lips, the violent sound of a knife slamming into a cutting board echoed from the kitchen.
“What’s wrong?” Juniper called out.
“Nothing!” Shanley’s voice drifted back-husky, low, and laced with absolute menace. “Just murdering a watermelon.”
Luella was speechless.
Murdering a watermelon? Was he really aiming for the watermelon, or was he aiming for her?
“Oh.” Juniper turned her attention back, blinking innocently at Luella with a teasing smirk. “Anyway, what were you just saying?”
“Huh?”
Luella glanced toward the kitchen, where Shanley was ruthlessly hacking apart the fruit. Her mouth twitched, and she immediately sat up straight, deadpanning, “I didn’t say anything! You must have misheard me!”
Juniper’s lips curved upward as she shifted closer, deliberately leaning against her friend.
Luella craned her neck to peek at the kitchen again, whispering in sheer terror, “Juniper, your man is so extra. You need to rein him in!”
“He still hasn’t recovered from the trauma of you being a man.”
Juniper took her hand, her eyes curving into crescents as she noticed the ring on Luella’s finger. “So, is everything in Stellara Country fully resolved?”
“Yeah.”
Luella nodded, a radiant smile breaking across her face. “I never have to go back to that broken home ever again.”
“That’s great!”
Juniper beamed, genuinely happy for her. “So when are you and Jimmie tying the knot?”
“Tying the knot?”
Hearing that, Luella froze, blurting out instinctively, “We still have to get married?”
Juniper was completely blindsided by the response. She blinked, asking tentatively, “Are you saying you just wanted to play around with dimme and not take responsibility?
The moment the words left her mouth, Jimmie materialized behind them. His deep,
intense gaze locked onto Luella.
His eyes were absolutely terrifying.
It felt like if she dared to say “yes,” he might actually end her on the spot.
“O-Of course not!”
Luella tilted her head up, declaring with absolute, undeniable certainty, “I’m not the kind of trashy woman who uses someone and throws them away!”
“Oh-“
Juniper dragged out the syllable, her eyes dancing with amusement as she looked at Jimmie. “You hear that tuella says she going to take responsibility for you!”
“I hear it.”
Jimmie nodded, his expression softening significantly. He stepped forward, wrapping an arm around Luella’s waist His voice low and raspy. “Let’s go. We can make it
before they close.” ‘FindNovel.net
“Go where?”
Luella was baffled. “Close? What’s closing?”
“Didn’t you just say you were going to take responsibility for me?”
Jimmie’s tone was dead serious, his expression unwavering. “City Hall hasn’t closed yet. We can get our marriage license right now!”
