Chapter 1484
[ 661 words ]
“Mrs. Houston!”
After her greeting, Sienna’s gaze snapped to Lorelei’s face, asking with pointed malice, “Why are you all alone? Did Dr. Houston not come with you?”
“He isn’t here yet.”
Lorelei lifted her eyelids slightly, her tone as bland as plain water.
“The gala is almost over and he still isn’t here?” Sienna crossed her arms, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Could it be that he never planned on escorting you at all?”
Lorelei frowned. Harold had explicitly told the housekeeper he would be here, so he would definitely come.
He wasn’t the type to make empty promises. If he couldn’t make it, it was because the surgery ran late.
“Whether he comes or not has absolutely nothing to do with you, Ms. Vaughn.” Lorelei sat calmly, speaking slowly. “You people are seriously bizarre. Why are you all so obsessed with my husband?”
“Who’s obsessed with your-“
Sienna wanted to snap back but realized her argument contradicted itself. She abruptly shifted gears: “Joel, my mother has something she urgently needs to discuss with you.”
“Right now?” Joel frowned.
“Yes.”
Sienna forced a sweet smile, stepping forward to proactively link her arm through his. “It’s pretty urgent. You should go see her.”
“Alright.”
Joel gently detached her arm and said to Lorelei, “I’ll go check on her.”
“Go ahead.” Lorelei offered a faint smile, watching Joel walk away.
When she pulled her gaze back.
She found Sienna glaring at her with venomous eyes. “Lawyer Garner isn’t Harold Houston. He isn’t someone you can just trick into marriage. You better keep your hands off him.”
Lorelei’s brow furrowed, a string of question marks flashing across her mind.
Was this girl insane?!
“Furthermore, the Garner family would never accept a discarded wife as their daughter-in-law.”
“??”
Two more question marks popped into Lorelei’s head.
Seriously.
Was there something medically wrong with her brain?
Lorelei couldn’t be bothered to engage. She stood up and started walking toward the other side of the patio.
“I am talking to you.”
Sienna chased after her, attempting to grab Lorelei’s wrist. “I’m warning you, Joel is mine. Don’t even dream about seducing him.”
“Let go!”
Lorelei hated being touched by strangers and yanked her arm away forcefully.
Sienna caught sight of the swimming pool directly behind them. Her eyes turned ice- cold, and she violently shoved Lorelei by the shoulder.
With her injured leg, Lorelei couldn’t dodge in time and plunged backward straight into the pool.
Splash-
The loud crash of water instantly drew the attention of everyone nearby.
The pool wasn’t incredibly deep, but Lorelei didn’t know how to swim, and she thrashed wildly in the water.
“Oh my god, someone fell in!” someone shouted from the edge. “Call security!”
The guests rapidly crowded around
the edge. Most of them were in heavy makeup and wearing exorbitant designer clothing-none of them were about to ruin the

Lorelei desperately reached her hands upward, the tearing pain in her injured leg making it feel like she was going to suffocate.
Sienna watched Lorelei’s pathetic thrashing with a victorious smirk rising in her eyes.
Not far away, Lexi watched the scene unfold with immense entertainment.
“Lori!”
Hearing the commotion, Joel rushed over. Seeing who was in the water, he began stripping off his suit jacket, preparing to dive in.
But right at that moment, a tall, lean
shadow blurred past him at
terrifying speed Without a second of hesitation, the man vaulted into the water and hauled Lorelei up from beneath the surface.
“Cough, cough, cough…”
Finally able to draw breath, Lorelei opened her soaked, blurry eyes. When she made out the face of the man holding her, she gasped in pure shock, “Harold?”
“It’s me.”
Harold’s expression was murderously dark, but the grip he held around her waist was incredibly gentle. His eyes were terrifyingly red. “Are you okay?”
Lorelei’s eyes welled with tears. She threw her arms tightly around his neck, unable to make a sound as her entire body trembled violently.
“Harold Houston?”
Someone on the deck recognized him and gasped in shock.
Joel stood completely frozen by the edge of the pool, staring at the two of them embracing in the water, his face turning an indescribably ugly
shade of pale.
