Chapter 1503
[ 671 words ]
D-Daughter?
Lorelei looked down at the docile little kitten nestled in her arms, utterly bewildered for a moment.
Hadn’t she told her assistant to come pick the cat up?
Wait a minute!
Wasn’t Harold supposed to be allergic to cats? How was he holding it?
“Let’s go inside.” Harold grabbed Lorelei by the wrist, pulling her toward the house.
Watching them walk away, Joel let out a soft sigh, his eyes filled with a complicated mix of emotions.
Back in the living room.
Harold dropped the suitcase to the side, but he didn’t let go of Lorelei’s wrist. He frowned down at her. “Why did you come back with Joel Garner?”
“Joel was in Yalania for business and gave me a ride back on his way.” Lorelei struggled weakly against his grip, snapping back, “Let go of me.”
“Lorelei!”
Harold hadn’t slept in two days and two nights; his mind and heart had been entirely consumed by thoughts of her.
She wouldn’t answer his calls, wouldn’t reply to his texts, and yet here she was, laughing and chatting with Joel.
Was she planning on choosing Joel and dumping him?
“Why did you sign the divorce papers?” Harold demanded, his eyes red-rimmed and his voice low. “Is it because of Joel Garner? What is so great about him that you’ve been pining over him all these years?”
He has no sense of responsibility, no backbone.
If he knew the woman he loved was being ‘forced’ into a ma age with another man
he would have crashed the wedding and stolen the bride no matter the cost.
Joel hid out of the country for three years, and now he comes back to fight for her?
What the hell took him so long?
“What does this have to do with Joel?”
Forced to meet his gaze, Lorelei’s expression was just as dark as she shot back defensively. “You know perfectly well why I did it!”
Why was he even a doctor?
He’d make a great politician with the way he could instantly twist the blame onto someone else!
“What do I know?” Harold’s
frustration boiled over. He snatched the kitten back out of her arms, glaring in sheer aggravation. “I didn’t do anything wrong that night! Gust kissed you without asking first and then I renamed the cat Pudge Bellamy!”
“Pudge Bellamy?” Lorelei froze in her tracks.
Excuse me?
Her beautiful baby girl was not pudgy!
“Who gave you permission to give her a name like that?” Since they were getting divorced anyway, Lorelei didn’t even bother trying to be polite. She threw all caution to the wind, her temper flaring. That is a hideous name for my gorgeous daughter.”
“Then what should we call her?”
Seeing her cheeks puff out in anger, a rosy flush dusting her skin, the blazing fury in Harold’s chest instantly fizzled out His voice
softened entirely on its own Pretty girl? Sweetie? Baby?” .net
Bottom line.
She just couldn’t be called “Baby” as a general pet name.
Lorelei was dumbstruck. Who in their right mind would be arguing about something this stupid at a time like this?
“I came back to pack my things.” Lorelei put on her most serious expression, though even when she tried to act fierce, her voice was inherently soft. “Give me my daughter back.”
“She’s my daughter too.”
Harold took a step back, clutching the cat to his chest, his Adam’s apple bobbing. “Why don’t you ask her who she wants to go with?”
With that, he set the cat down on the floor, right between the two of them.
“She’s obviously coming with me.” Lorelei crouched down, coaxing the kitten. “Come here, Mommy’s got you.”
Harold, on the other hand, just stood perfectly still, watching the hesitant cat with great interest.
*Meow~*
The kitten’s eyes darted back and forth between the two of them, completely torn.
Lorelei: “Come here, my little baby.”
Harold: “Pudge, come to Daddy.”
And then, Pudge strutted right over to Harold and sat by his feet.
Lorelei blinked. She had only been gone for three days! What on earth had Harold done to her cat?!
“There’s no such thing as a free meal in this world.” Harold stroked the kitten’s fur. If she wanted to eat, she had to help Daddy chase down Mommy.
