Chapter 1512
[ 644 words ]
Half an hour later.
Faulkner and Noemi knocked on the hospital room door, pretending they had just arrived.
“Mom, Dad.”
Lorelei stood up immediately, greeting them with polite respect.
Having just been thoroughly kissed, her lips were swollen and rosy, and a bashful flush lingered on her cheeks.
“Oh, honey.”
Noemi flashed her a warm, gentle smile. “Don’t be so formal. Sit down, sit down.”
“Okay.”
Lorelei obediently sat back in her chair. As she raised her eyes, she accidentally caught the man’s profound gaze fixed intently upon her.
Remembering the ridiculous make-out session from just moments ago, Lorelei quickly averted her eyes, forcing herself to resume her usual graceful and elegant demeanor.
Harold simply watched her, his eyes brimming with deep amusement.
*Little fox.*
“Ahem, we just went to check on Eleanor.”
Seeing the lovestruck couple practically glued to each other, Noemi gently
interrupted. “She’s awake and completely lucid. Her recovery is going exceptionally well.”
“That’s good.”
Harold nodded. His gaze shifted to his father, and he asked respectfully, “Has the company been busy lately?”
“Whether it’s busy or not, you’re in no shape to help,” Faulkner mumbled awkwardly. Though his expression remained strict, his concern for his son was obvious. “Just focus on resting. The matters at the Global Medical Alliance Association are far more important anyway.”
“I know.”
Harold nodded, making sure to add, “The weather’s been fluctuating a lot lately. Make sure you keep your asthma inhaler on you, Dad. And cut back on the drinking.”
“Nag, nag, nag,” Faulkner’s rigid expression softened a fraction as he muttered, “Just worry about yourself.”
Watching the father and son bicker, Noemi couldn’t help but smile.
At least they finally looked like a normal father and son. Before this, they used to be so icy toward each other they practically looked like sworn enemies.
“Alright, we just wanted to drop by and see you.” Not wanting to crash the couple’s alone time, Noemi grabbed her husband’s arm and stood up. “Knowing Lorelei is here taking care of you gives us total peace of mind.”
Because as long as they stayed in the room, the couple remained noticeably stiff.
After seeing his parents out.
Lorelei returned to the room. Harold beckoned her over. “Lori, come here.”
“You really can’t move around anymore.”
Lorelei stood near the door, her face a mix of pale apprehension and rosy hesitation.
“?”
Harold was puzzled for a few
seconds before a low, lazy chuckle rumbled in his throat. “I’m not going to do anything. I just want to hold you.” FindNovel.net
After hesitating for a few moments.
Lorelei eventually walked over, standing by the edge of the bed and looking down at him.
“Come up.”
Harold lifted the blanket, gently pulling her into his arms. The two simply lay there in silence.
Lorelei hadn’t slept properly in days.
Listening to the steady, rhythmic thumping of his heartbeat, a wave of exhaustion washed over her. Just as she was drifting off to sleep.
Harold’s voice suddenly cut through the silence. “Lori.”
“Mhm?”
Lorelei snuggled deeper into his embrace, humming a response with her eyes closed.
“I love you.”
Harold lowered his head and pressed a soft kiss against the tip of her nose. Lorelei’s eyes snapped open, all traces of sleep vanishing instantly. “W-What?”
Even though their misunderstandings had been cleared up, Harold had never actually said those three words to her.
“I said, I
down
you.” Harold leaned
her once more andet
spoke with absolute earnestness
I will love you for the rest of my
life.”
Lorelei stared at him quietly. Her eyes slowly reddened as she parted her rosy lips
to whisper, “I love you too.”
Overwhelmed by emotion, Harold was just about to take things a step further when
a sharp, violent spike of pain shot through his lower back.
*Hiss-*
It seemed Juniper wasn’t exaggerating. His back really couldn’t handle it.
Three days later.
Harold was finally cleared to walk and was officially discharged. He immediately accompanied Lorelei to visit Eleanor.
Just as they stepped out of the elevator, they bumped right into Joel Garner.
Harold’s gaze turned instantly
