Chapter 1544
[ 583 words ]
“I like how innocent, bright, and lively you are…”
Kian’s brain spun rapidly as he forced out a few adjectives.
Janet’s expression turned even sourer.
Lively?
What law student was lively?
See?
He didn’t even know her, so how could he talk about liking her?
Mr. Schwartz understood her cousin completely, which was why he loved her so much.
“I’m sorry, Kian, but I don’t want to date right now.” Janet refused politely.
“That’s okay, I can wait for you.”
Kian reached out to touch her hand, but Janet dodged him just in time.
“Kian, I’ve made myself very clear.”
Janet’s eyes flashed with displeasure, clearly resistant. “I hope you won’t waste your time on me in the future.”
“I don’t think it’s a waste of time at all.” Kian pretended not to understand, keeping
up his smile. “Was I too sudden? Is it hard for you to accept?”
“I’m sorry, I’ll be more careful from now on. Janet, I just hope you’ll give me a chance.”
“Ah, no…”
Janet opened her mouth to argue, but Kian’s phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at it, hung up, and said to Janet, “Alright, you’re busy today. Let’s make it another time.”
With that.
Kian waved at her and turned away.
Out of Janet’s sight, he returned the call, smiling like a sleazebag: “Hey baby, miss me?”
“I was busy with my studies just now, of course. I’ll come over and keep you company now, be good.”
Janet walked with her head down. She felt like she had been perfectly clear, but Kian just didn’t seem to get the message.
Just as she was feeling frustrated, she suddenly crashed into a wall.
“Oof-“
Janet bounced back, but before she could steady herself, a force yanked her back.
“Mr. Steele?” Seeing the person in front of her, she was momentarily stunned, “You have classes today?”
“Mhm.” Melvin raised an eyebrow at her, parting his lips. “Free? Have dinner with me.”
“Now?”
“Is that a problem?” Melvin smiled lazily. “We’ll go eat your favorite food, and I’ll ask for a favor while we’re at it.”
Ask for a favor?
Janet was confused. What could she possibly help him with?
“Let’s go, we’ll talk on the way.” Melvin took her bag, and the two headed out via a quiet path.
The girl was still pretty dense right now, so he tried his best to keep a low profile in front of her classmates.
To avoid starting any gossip about her.
Her hand suddenly empty, Janet stood in a daze for a few seconds before jogging to catch up.
In the restaurant.
Janet looked up from her bowl, surprised. “You want me to be your company’s legal advisor?”
“Is there a problem?” Melvin peeled a shrimp for her, a faint smile on his lips.
A huge problem.
Janet said, “I’m only a freshman. There’s a lot about the law I don’t know yet.”
“I just started my company and don’t have enough capital to hire a legal advisor.” Melvin popped the shamp into her mouth, looking pitiful “Just consider it a huge favor forme
“But…”
“I know you’ve already finished reading a ton of law books,” Melvin added. “A new company won’t have any major issues, just reviewing smell contracts If we fun into anything too hard, flask Juniper for help.”
“What, you don’t want to?”
Seeing Janet hesitate, Melvin added, “It’s fine. I’ll just go beg someone else.”
“Though the pay is low, so I doubt anyone else will want it…”
“I’ll do it.”
Janet quickly agreed. “I can help you look over contracts in the beginning,
