Chapter 1566
[ 632 words ]
“I’m sorry.”
Janet struggled to pull her lips into a smile, her voice wavering as she spoke. “I’m sorry for dragging you into this ridiculous mess.”
“Did you hurt your back?”
Seeing her hunched over, Melvin’s brows pulled into a harsh frown.
Janet shook her head, fighting back her tears.
When you’re entirely surrounded by accusations, a sudden trace of gentleness can truly shatter your defenses.
“Sit down for a minute. Once I handle this, I’m taking you to the hospital.”
“Mr. Steele…”
“Listen to me.” Melvin’s tone grew firmer. “With so many people watching, this is the perfect time to clear things up face to face.”
Janet had no choice but to sit down, staring at Melvin with red-rimmed eyes.
The situation had spiraled completely out of control, and Kian wasn’t even here.
Without someone to confront, who would believe their side of the story?
After making sure Janet was seated.
Melvin turned his gaze to the woman standing nearby, speaking in a slow, measured cadence. “Your boyfriend is a Law student?”
“That’s right.”
Believing herself to be the victim, the woman spoke with absolute confidence. “If he wasn’t in the Law School, Janet wouldn’t have been able to hook him.”
“Alright.”
Melvin’s lips curled up, but the smile never reached his eyes. It was actually quite terrifying. “Go back and have him look up the maximum sentence for assault and battery.”
“What assault and battery?”
“Your shoving just now resulted in Ms. Wilcox getting injured.”
Melvin took a step forward, towering over her as his voice dropped to freezing temperatures. “Once I’m done dealing with Kian, I’ll be dealing with you next.”
“The police should be arriving in about ten minutes. I suggest you think very carefully about what you’re going to say.”
Police?
The woman jumped in fright, but then she found the idea utterly laughable.
She had never seen someone play the “mistress” with such blatant arrogance before.
She was the one who wanted to call the cops!
“She seduces someone else’s boyfriend, and you have the nerve to call the police?” The woman laughed in sheer disbelief. “The absolute audacity!”
Makes sense, though.
If she wasn’t completely shameless, she wouldn’t have done something like this in the first place.
“You have no shame whatsoever, yet
you’re commenting on someone
else’s audacity?” Melvin’s gaze was
lethal “I think you don’t just need our eyes checked, you need your brain examined.”
“You”
The woman glared at Melvin, sneering mockingly. “You’re so eager to stand up for
her. Don’t tell me you’re sleeping with her too?!”
“I wonder if you’re strictly platonic, or if you’re friends with benefits.”
“???”
The onlookers were frantically refreshing the forum leaks, recording videos,
snapping photos, and gossiping live all at the same time.
Ahhhh.
They were so incredibly busy.
“Friends with benefits? No way!”
“You guys, check the forum! Someone just posted the unblurred photo!”
Someone who caught the explosive update suddenly yelled out.
“It really is Mr. Steele.” One student whispered. “Looks like it was taken at the resort.
Who took it? It’s actually kind of beautiful. Does anyone have the HD link?”
Everyone else: “?”
“Don’t you guys think the way Mr. Steele is fooking at Janet is a little… intense? It’s totally affectionate and completely doting. Ahhhhh, if a
looked at me like that would
quy
literally melt.”
“My brother definitely doesn’t look at me like that; he looks at me like he wants to murder me! *Thumbs up emoji*”
“Are they secretly dating? The vibe is way too romantic, ahhh!”
Before the crowd could even fully digest the latest twist, someone else interjected:
“But Mr. Steele has a girlfriend, and it’s definitely not Janet.”
As soon as those words dropped.
A massive wave of murmurs swept through the cafeteria.
They were acting this intimate, and you’re telling me Melvin has a girlfriend?
Hold on.
If he has a girlfriend, why is he casually holding another girl like that?
“It’s true.”
The person continued, “The poster on the forum said that the rumor about him having a girlfriend came straight from Janet’s own mouth- The entire Law School knows about it.”
