Chapter 152
Grandpa Zhang had initially planned to have a private conversation with Su Xiaoxiao, discussing the upcoming arrangements. He wanted her brother to be aware of the plans, but there were three other individuals present with ulterior motives. He had to keep these plans to himself for the time being.
He intended to have Zhiyuan to visit Su Xiaoxiao’s brother in Dai City in person. Then, the arrangements could be discussed with them privately.
“Alright, let’s go have dinner!” Grandpa Zhang quickly changed the subject.
Once everyone was seated in the dining room, Grandpa Zhang looked at Su Xiaoxiao with a reluctant expression. “Ah, my child, this time you’re leaving Beijing, and we don’t know when you’ll come back. Your grandma and I will surely miss you.”
“I’ll call you and Grandma every week. I’m afraid you’ll find me annoying,” Su Xiaoxiao said with a playful, mischievous look in her eyes.
Both Grandpa Zhang and Grandma Wang smiled warmly. “Who said we’d find you annoying? If it weren’t for the inconvenience of calling you at the production team, we’d want to talk to you every day. We’re usually quite bored at home and enjoy chatting with you, hearing about how you’ve been doing.”
Their words carried a sense of deep affection, and it was evident they wanted Su Xiaoxiao to call them more often after her departure. However, Zhang Hanyu and Zhang Xiyue sitting nearby were incredibly annoyed. They couldn’t understand why their grandparents treated them like enemies while showing such kindness to an outsider.
“I will definitely call you more often when I have the chance. But how about we set a fixed time every week now? This way, we won’t miss each other,” Su Xiaoxiao raised her eyebrows, looking cunning like a little fox.
Upon hearing this, Peng Huijing tightly squeezed the chopsticks in her hand, causing the veins on the back of her hand to bulge. She couldn’t believe that Su Xiaoxiao, whom they had investigated and thought was the most foolish, easy to bully, and deceive in the Su family, could so quickly thwart their plans and leave no room for manipulation. In fact, one could say she was the cleverest in the entire Su family.
However, Grandpa Zhang and Grandma Wang didn’t notice the change in Peng Huijing’s expression. Grandpa Zhang cheerfully agreed, “Alright, we’ll go with what Xiaoxiao said. You can set the time.”
Su Xiaoxiao thought for a moment and then said, “Let’s make it every Saturday evening at 7:30.”
Previously, she had been worried about leaving Beijing and not being able to spend time with Grandpa Zhang and Grandma Wang, fearing that their emotional connection would weaken. However, she had now found a solution to her previous concerns.
After a cheerful dinner, Su Xiaoxiao handed over all three prescription papers to Grandpa Zhang.
Grandpa Zhang smiled delightedly as he received them, “Thank you, Xiaoxiao. You’ve saved my life, and you’re willing to donate these prescriptions. Don’t worry; I’ll handle them carefully and ensure no one with ulterior motives interferes.”
“Grandpa Zhang, now that you’ve said that, I can rest easy. After tomorrow, we’ll be leaving. Our train is scheduled for the afternoon, so Brother Yexun and I will come to visit you and Grandma Wang at noon.” Su Xiaoxiao smiled affectionately.
“Alright, that’s great! We’ll look forward to your visit.” Grandpa Zhang was delighted to hear they would return soon and even accompanied them outside the courtyard. Only when Su Xiaoxiao firmly declined did he leave them at the gate. Nevertheless, he arranged for Ning Yuanzheng to drive them back to their lodgings.
As they sat in the back seat of the car, Su Xiaoxiao’s tense heart finally relaxed. The familiar scent of the man beside her overwhelmed her, and the suppressed yearning erupted in an instant. She softly placed her small hand on Jiang Yexun’s leg.
Jiang Yexun’s body stiffened at the touch, and he grabbed her small, soft hand. His coarse fingertips caressed her hand with an ambiguous, suggestive touch. Su Xiaoxiao, already weakened, felt her heart uncontrollably tingle.
She tilted her head, her eyes filled with a misty, spring-like charm, as she stared directly at him. Jiang Yexun playfully raised an eyebrow, then blinked at her with a suggestive glint in his eye.
Su Xiaoxiao’s face flushed, and her entire being was overwhelmed. She was incredibly shy, but she longed to return to the guesthouse as soon as possible. However, the guesthouse was still some distance away from the compound. After fifteen minutes of driving, they finally stopped in front of the guesthouse.
“Comrades Su and Jiang, you’ve finally returned. I wasn’t feeling well last night, so I asked my mother to cover for me. When we heard you were back today, we hurried over,” one of the staff members said eagerly.
Su Xiaoxiao examined her, her eyes sparkling. “Your complexion has improved a lot.”
“Right, I’ve been using whitening pills for a week, and the results are so obvious that many people are asking me to buy the whitening pills for them,” she proudly replied.
“Same here. A few people I know were impressed by the effects of the whitening pills I used,” the other staff member chimed in.
Upon hearing the numbers they requested, Su Xiaoxiao’s head began to throb. She hesitated and said, “We won’t be in Beijing for long this time. We’re leaving the day after tomorrow. Your orders are quite large, and I’m not sure if we can make enough.”
“We’ll stay up late tonight and tomorrow night to watch over the stove outside to help you,” the two staff members offered, determined not to miss the opportunity to earn a hundred yuan, which equaled three months’ wages.
Su Xiaoxiao was a bit conflicted but was reassured when Jiang Yexun reached out and patted her head. He then said with a smile, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep an eye on it at night.”
Su Xiaoxiao always disposed of the used medicinal herbs secretly, away from prying eyes. She was concerned that others might try to steal her secret formula. Jiang Yexun would watch over her to prevent any unexpected occurrences.
