The next morning, just before work, the villagers had surrounded both his house and the old Jiang family’s house.
“Yexun, your father came to us before the New Year asking for five hundred yuan, saying it was to help your little nephew. But now, more than three months have passed. How about you and your older brother discuss how to repay us for this money?” they said, suppressing their fear and feeling awkward.

The sound of a hurried voice responded from behind the door.

Seeing the villagers standing behind Jiang Yexun, his previously fearful expression immediately turned to annoyance.
“Why did you bring them all here?”
“Jiang Guoli borrowed five hundred yuan from them before the New Year. What’s the problem with them coming to collect the debt?” Jiang Yexun raised an eyebrow and responded.
Jiang Quankun immediately became anxious. “Who borrowed money from them? They should be asking my father! Why are you bringing them here to block me? Didn’t you send my father to the police station? Go ask for the money there.”
Jiang Yexun smirked, tightening his brows. “You seem to have forgotten. The house you live in now belongs to Jiang Guoli. Every brick and tile here was paid for with his money. This land doesn’t belong to you.”
“What do you mean by that? You already have a good house next door, and now you want to fight me for this one?” Jiang Quankun yelled angrily.
If not for the fact that he couldn’t beat Jiang Yexun, he would have thrown a punch at his face.
“Jiang Guoli borrowed the money, but he didn’t take his grandson to the big city for treatment. He spent the past three months holed up here. There’s no way he used that money, so that five hundred yuan is still here in this house. We just need to find it and pay everyone back,” Jiang Yexun stated firmly.
“You’ve gone mad! Dad was just sent to the police station by you, and now you want to tear the family apart even more?” Jiang Quankun knew that the five hundred yuan, plus all the money Jiang Guoli had saved over the years, was definitely hidden in this house.
But he and his wife had searched high and low last night, nearly digging through the floors, yet they couldn’t find the money or any of the savings bonds.
He had planned to search thoroughly in the next few days. After all, Jiang Guoli had committed such a shameless act, and he would likely be in prison for at least a decade or two.
