The woman forced a smile but didn’t bother saying anything more. However, she didn’t move to another place, indicating that she hadn’t given up. Su Xiaoxiao decided to take out her high school textbook and started reading it attentively, so the woman couldn’t easily engage in conversation.
Around noon, Jiang Yexun woke up, but Su Xiaoxiao softly coaxed him to continue sleeping. However, Su Xiaoxiao opened her lunchbox, revealing two large meat buns inside. She replied, “No need, these are the ones my fiancé bought for me this morning, and they will be enough for me for lunch.”
Being rejected once again, the woman lost her patience with Su Xiaoxiao. She gave Su Xiaoxiao a deep look and then turned and left. Su Xiaoxiao waited until she was sure the coast was clear, then peeked out to confirm that no one else was in the compartment. She breathed a sigh of relief.
Jiang Yexun had also awakened but stayed quiet, watching Su Xiaoxiao attentively. “Something wrong about her?”
“I think so. She appeared too eager to make friends with me.” Su Xiaoxiao shrugged and nodded. She knew that on a train, there was no need for her to engage with someone who clearly had ill intentions.
At last, the woman remained quiet until Jiang Yexun woke up. Seeing him sit up, she immediately put on an elegant smile. However, before she could greet them, Jiang Yexun shot her a hostile glare. The woman decided not to say anything further.
Jiang Yexun collected their belongings and gestured for Su Xiaoxiao to join him. “Let’s go; after freshening up, we can grab dinner.”
Su Xiaoxiao quickly grabbed her bag, and they walked together. Even though their relationship was more distant than that of an ordinary couple, their shared aura and the affectionate glances they exchanged left no doubt in anyone’s mind about their connection.
After dinner, Jiang Yexun decided not to return to the sleeping berth. Instead, he sat in the dining car for two hours, deep in thought. The train arrived at Dai City Station at 8:30 in the evening, and the crowded platform made it difficult to move. Jiang Yexun held all their belongings with one hand and tightly held Su Xiaoxiao’s hand with the other to prevent her from being separated from him.
Su Xiaoxiao’s cheeks flushed a delicate shade of pink. When the opportunity presented itself, she boldly wrapped her arms around Jiang Yexun, resting her head on his chest and savoring the warmth of his body.
This gesture made Jiang Yexun’s heart race, and he held her even more tightly. They gradually inched forward for nearly twenty minutes before finally making their way out of the station.
Finding a less crowded corner, Jiang Yexun placed Su Xiaoxiao on her feet. The sudden emptiness of his arms, the loss of her soft, fragrant warmth, left him with a sense of longing. He had been planning to help her straighten her clothes, but she promptly moved away from him.
“I can manage by myself,” she said.
Jiang Yexun gritted his teeth, annoyed by her heartless demeanor. But before he could say anything, Su Xiaoxiao pulled at his sleeve urgently.
“Let’s go, we need to make a phone call right away.”
