“If you think we’re tampering with the evidence, why didn’t you speak up earlier?” the leader of the group of men in armbands said, his eyes wide with anger.
However, Su Xiaoxiao remained as calm and confident as ever, still showing some righteous indignation.
“Isn’t this something you should know better than anyone? How could we know that after telling you we lost money, you’d still recklessly come in and start smashing things? Now, we’re starting to suspect that you’re deliberately destroying evidence,” she responded, her tone unwavering.
The men with the armbands had already been in the wrong for their rough handling earlier, and now that Su Xiaoxiao pointed it out in front of everyone, the onlookers began to eye them suspiciously.
The men with the armbands were left with no choice but to harden their faces and respond.
“We didn’t expect to lose control earlier, but as state employees, we would never collude with thieves. How about this—let’s go to the police station together and fully cooperate with the investigation,” the leader said.
At this point, the incident had escalated beyond their control. Although their initial actions had been motivated by quick gains and some carelessness, they weren’t truly worried about the investigation. Su Xiaoxiao nodded in satisfaction and was about to close the door.

“No, there’s nothing. We’ve checked every place where things could be hidden,” one of the men with the armband replied, a twitch at the corner of his mouth.
“Of course, you even went through the blankets,” Su Xiaoxiao remarked coldly, her sarcasm biting.

The men were numb to her mocking by now, and her words didn’t seem to faze them in the least. Over the years, they’d searched many rooms in Beijing, and dealing with powerful people had taught them how to be flexible—bending when necessary and standing firm when needed.
After locking the door, Su Xiaoxiao turned to the service staff, who had finally regained her composure after all the commotion.
“Sorry for the inconvenience. We’re in a hurry to go to the police station. We’ll sort through the things in the room after we return. The room is clearly not habitable right now, so please arrange for us to stay in another room,” Su Xiaoxiao said.
The service staff immediately agreed, “Sure, go ahead. I’ll make sure to reserve a good room for you.”
She also made a mental note to thoroughly clean the room before anyone else stays there. After all, there was a good chance someone had snuck something into their room while they were gone.
