Chapter 28
“It’s out of your concerns. Stop tarnishing my future husband’s reputation! I’m going to marry Jiang Yexun, and that’s my business. If you dare to say anything unnecessary, I’ll tell him to come and beat you up,” Su Xiaoxiao proudly raised her chin, disdainfully glaring at the man who had just gotten up from the ground.
“Don’t say silly words like that. I know you’re marrying Jiang Yexun because you’re afraid of the gossip from the production team. How about you marry me instead? We grew up together in the same residential area, and our childhood connection is strong. I won’t mind if you’re no longer pure, and I’ll treat you well in the future,” Pan Yongsheng acted as if he couldn’t see how much Su Xiaoxiao desired to marry Jiang Yexun, speaking on his own accord.
In his previous life, he had been just like this, professing loyalty to Su Xiaoxiao whenever he had the chance, putting on a loving appearance. Even if Su Xiaoxiao hadn’t given him any benefits and had given him the cold shoulder, he had continued to pursue her for three years.
However, even if she didn’t like him and looked down on him, it was very difficult for her to doubt his sincerity. She had fallen for his deception just like that and paid with her life to realize that some men, no matter how sweet their words or how tender they acted towards you, did it all to achieve their goals.
But she didn’t know who the person hiding behind Pan Yongsheng in the previous life was. How had their family offended someone so powerful.
“Ha!” Su Xiaoxiao retrieved her thoughts and sneered. Without saying much, she turned and headed for the kitchen.
Pan Yongsheng didn’t want to let her leave like that and immediately followed. However, he saw Su Xiaoxiao grabbing a wooden stick from the firewood pile and fiercely smashing it towards his head.
“Ah!” Pan Yongsheng held his head in pain, letting out a miserable cry. But Su Xiaoxiao didn’t stop; in fact, she struck even harder, one blow after another, as if she wanted to beat him to death.
Pan Yongsheng couldn’t care less about how he looked; he just wanted to stop her from hitting him. He reached out and grabbed the falling stick.
Men were generally stronger than women, and Su Xiaoxiao was quite delicate. When he yanked the stick out of her hand, she nearly fell on him.
Su Xiaoxiao was so frightened that her face turned pale. She struggled to move away from Pan Yongsheng.
Soon, she felt her waist being gripped by a strong arm and pulled back into a familiar and warm chest.
Su Xiaoxiao didn’t even need to look up to know who was holding her. She had been frightened to the point of weakness, and now her legs had lost all strength.
“Why did it take you so long? Pan Yongsheng and Dong Jiaxuan were just bullying me,” she buried her head in Jiang Yexun’s embrace, her voice choked with sobs. Her pitiful appearance made Jiang Yexun’s heart ache as if it were being twisted by a knife, causing every muscle in his body to tense.
“Don’t be afraid, it’s over now.” Jiang Yexun’s big hand comforted and cherished her, gently stroking her hair, as if protecting a rare treasure.
With Su Xiaoxiao in his arms, he looked towards Pan Yongsheng, who was struggling to get up from the ground. The intense anger surged in his chest, feeling that he had been too light-handed in dealing with this scum.
Lifting his foot, he was about to kick again.
Pan Yongsheng was terrified, using both hands and feet to scramble backward. “I didn’t do anything! She attacked me first, I just defended myself.”
However, Jiang Yexun couldn’t be bothered with his excuses and didn’t say another word.
With swift strides, like an unsheathed blade, he approached the struggling Pan Yongsheng. He raised his foot and viciously kicked him.
“Help! Someone! Save me!” Pan Yongsheng let out a piercing cry of despair.
Hearing the commotion, some educated youths from the production team came out to see what was happening. Some of them wanted to intervene but, looking at Jiang Yexun’s fierce appearance, no one dared to approach.
Even Dong Jiaxuan was so frightened that she kept trembling and moved farther away.
“Don’t hit him anymore, or you might really kill him,” Su Xiaoxiao said.
Finally, she poked her head out from Jiang Yexun’s embrace and gently tugged on his arm. Jiang Yexun lowered his head, his eyes intense as he looked at her, making sure she hadn’t cried or been genuinely frightened. He then gave another strong kick to Pan Yongsheng, causing him to step back a couple of paces, further away from the man on the ground.
“Brother Yexun, let’s go to the police. He just stopped me knowing we’re engaged and said things like not minding if I’m not pure anymore, willing to reluctantly marry me. This is an insult, harassment, and rascalism towards me,” Su Xiaoxiao angrily lifted her head and complained.
Jiang Yexun exploded with anger, a surge of fury boiling in his chest. He felt that the punishment he’d just administered to this scumbag was far too lenient. He raised his foot, ready to kick again, and Pan Yongsheng, terrified, scrambled backward. Seeing that Su Xiaoxiao had restrained him, he desperately sought an excuse for himself.
“I… I just can’t express myself properly, but I never intended to harass you. I was just afraid you’d really marry into the village, and you’d never be able to leave again.”
“This is something for you to discuss with the police,” Su Xiaoxiao raised her head arrogantly, tilted her chin, and then turned to Jiang Yexun. “Let’s go, we’ll take him to the police station.”
“No, you can’t do this! You’ll ruin Brother Yongsheng,” Dong Jiaxuan said, rushing over without caring about her fear. Su Xiaoxiao had seen how swollen her face was from the beating she had given her at lunch, and now she was desperately protecting this dog of a man. She really didn’t have the strength to hit or scold her anymore. She even had a bit of an inclination to help them become a couple. But whatever Dong Jiaxuan said, it had no effect on Jiang Yexun. He had a gloomy face, with one hand supporting Su Xiaoxiao and the other pulling Pan Yongsheng’s collar as if dragging a dead dog.
“Let go of me! Let go of me!” Pan Yongsheng tried to reach out to grab Jiang Yexun, but before his hand could touch him, Su Xiaoxiao kicked him away. Dong Jiaxuan hurriedly followed at the side, but she was obviously too scared to do anything more than shout.
Pan Yongsheng was dragged by Jiang Yexun on the ground for about a hundred meters like a dead dog. In the end, he could only say resentfully, “Educated Youth Su, as long as you let me go this time, I promise not to call your parents and tell them anything.”
“I never planned to secretly get married. If you want to tell them, go ahead,” Su Xiaoxiao said nonchalantly, although deep down, she was a little anxious. It was almost harvest season, and they couldn’t take leave to go home at this time.
Her parents were busy with work, and they definitely wouldn’t have the time to spend six days and four nights on the train to personally inspect their future son-in-law. Now that her parents knew about this, they could only worry in Shanghai.
