Chapter 29
Feeling the girl tighten her grip on his hand, Jiang Yexun lowered his head to look into her eyes. He halted and fixed a cold gaze on Pan Yongsheng, issuing a threat, “If my future in-laws find out in advance, regardless of whether it’s you who leaks the news, I’ll hold you responsible.”
Pan Yongsheng felt indignant, but in the end, he could only grit his teeth and agree.
“Get lost!”
Jiang Yexun let go, throwing him to the ground. Pan Yongsheng quickly flipped over and crawled back towards the educated youth dormitory.
“Brother Yongsheng, wait!” Dong Jiaxuan cried as she hurriedly chased after him with tears in her eyes. But neither of them dared to argue with Jiang Yexun, fearing they might get beaten again.
Watching their stumbling figures, Su Xiaoxiao suddenly shouted in a clear, crisp voice, “Oh, by the way, Dong Jiaxuan, let me kindly remind you. Don’t be foolish enough to make a phone call and ruin my wedding plans. Otherwise, your calculations will come to naught. You don’t want to end up as an invisible mistress by Pan Yongsheng’s side, do you?”
A chill ran down Dong Jiaxuan’s spine, and she clenched her fists, unwilling to accept defeat. She had actually considered calling home to spread the news about Su Xiaoxiao marrying a rural guy, thinking it would not only save her Brother Yongsheng’s pride but also sabotage Su Xiaoxiao’s wedding plans. However, now she realized that Su Xiaoxiao marrying Jiang Yexun was actually the best outcome.
Su Xiaoxiao was so proud, and Dong Jiaxuan couldn’t wait to see how she’d act as a village wife. Plus, Jiang Yexun wasn’t easy to mess with. Pan Yongsheng would surely give up on her now.
Dong Jiaxuan pinched Pan Yongsheng in pain, murmuring a soft apology, her voice trembling. “I’m sorry, Brother Yongsheng. I wasn’t paying attention.”
“It’s okay,” Pan Yongsheng replied insincerely, his eyes filled with disgust toward her. However, Dong Jiaxuan seemed oblivious to his true feelings.
She even felt somewhat delighted, thinking that Pan Yongsheng had finally recognized her worth.
Watching the man striding ahead, Su Xiaoxiao pouted her rosy lips and called out plaintively, “Brother Yexun, please wait for me.”
Her tone changed suddenly, causing Jiang Yexun’s back to stiffen. He clenched his teeth with a menacing look, then turned around to fix his cold gaze on the delicate young girl.
“What did I tell you at lunch?” he scolded sternly.
Su Xiaoxiao shifted her eyes guiltily and heard Jiang Yexun’s cold laughter.
“You’re quite a fighter, huh? If I hadn’t shown up, you might have fallen into another man’s arms.”
“It wouldn’t have been that bad. I would have fallen to the ground at most,” Su Xiaoxiao retorted defiantly, kicking a stone on the ground. Jiang Yexun was truly exasperated, almost wanting to spank her.
“Doesn’t it hurt when you fall to the ground? Don’t you know how to take care of yourself?”
“But I can’t really blame myself. I was following your advice and didn’t provoke them. They came over and picked a fight with me. I just lost my temper and fought back.”
Su Xiaoxiao ran over to Jiang Yexun, hugging his arm and shaking it pitifully while complaining.
He reached out and pressed one of his fingers against her forehead, speaking harshly, “Stand up straight and speak properly.”
Su Xiaoxiao, in anger, stomped on his foot with her own. “Now I’m the one being bullied, and you’re mad at me.”
Furthermore, she had just made an ugly face while swinging the stick at someone, and she was sure Jiang Yexun had noticed.
If he weren’t currently angry, she would have to coax him properly, or she would have dug a hole and hidden in it long ago.
“You’re really sharp-tongued,” Jiang Yexun sighed helplessly and indulgently. He felt like the little educated youth on his arm had fully captured his heart.
“Does your hand hurt? Did you get a splinter? Those firewood sticks are so rough. If a splinter gets into your hand, you’ll have to use a needle to pick it out. It’ll hurt a lot, so don’t cry if it happens.”
He gently held Su Xiaoxiao’s tender and smooth hand, carefully inspecting it. Although there were no splinters, her palm had turned red from the friction. Jiang Yexun blew on it gently and massaged it. There were still a few marks from where the blisters had burst, although they would fade away soon. However, Jiang Yexun regretted not helping Su Xiaoxiao with her work earlier. He could have spared her this suffering.
“Next time, don’t be so impulsive. Leave those two to me,” Jiang Yexun advised gently.
“My temper is bad, and I can’t control it.”
Su Xiaoxiao said this stubbornly, just when Jiang Yexun was thinking about whether to continue comforting her or give her a spanking. She was no longer satisfied with just holding his arm; she even wanted to snuggle into his embrace.
