Chapter 313
What… Does she really look that easy to bully?!
Fuming, Su Xiaoxiao tightened her grip on the woman she was restraining. Just as everyone’s attention was fixed on the two women, Su Xiaoxiao suddenly felt a menacing gaze.
Before she could react, she shouted, “Brother, be careful!”
At her warning, everyone turned to notice the man hiding in the crowd. He was holding a state-of-the-art American pistol, aimed directly at Su Hongchen.
Su Hongchen reacted swiftly, quickly moving to the side. But just before the man could pull the trigger, he twisted his wrist, redirecting the gun towards Su Xiaoxiao, who was still pinning down the woman on the floor.
Jiang Yexun and Su Hongchen, both with faces contorted with rage, lunged at her. At this point, Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t possibly evade the attack.
The moment the gun fired, Jiang Yexun had already wrapped his arms around her. Her wrist felt a searing pain, and before she could process it, she heard a dull thud followed by the man’s pained scream.
Everyone stared in shock at the exploded gun. Within moments, they had subdued all three individuals.
Jiang Yexun and Su Hongchen immediately knelt beside Su Xiaoxiao, examining her closely.
“Xiaoxiao, are you alright? Are you hurt? Did you get scared?” They asked anxiously.
Su Xiaoxiao, feeling drained, leaned weakly against Jiang Yexun and shook her head. “I’m not injured, just a bit shaken. My head feels a bit dizzy, and my legs are weak,” she said, her voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability.
Jiang Yexun and Su Hongchen were deeply concerned. Aunt Guo, watching from the side, said with a worried expression, “These wicked people really scared Xiaoxiao. Yexun, put her on the bed and get her a cup of hot water to help her recover. She shouldn’t be too shocked. Once we reach Shanghai, we should get her checked out at the hospital.”
“Auntie, I’m fine. I just need to rest,” Su Xiaoxiao said weakly, forcing a smile.
Aunt Guo insisted, “Don’t talk too much, just rest.”
Unable to refuse, Su Xiaoxiao closed her eyes, enduring the concerned gazes.
She knew better than anyone that it wasn’t just the shock that had affected her; the searing pain in her wrist had drained her of all energy. Was it possible that the Gu family ancestors were protecting her again?
Su Xiaoxiao instinctively touched her still-tingling wrist.
When Su Hongchen and Jiang Yexun were ready to handle the three enemy agents, they found the trio suddenly displaying a resolute look.
Su Hongchen’s heart sank as the three began to vomit black blood and quickly lost their lives. It was clear that they had poisoned themselves, hiding the poison in their teeth. The mission failure led them to eliminate themselves rather than leave any chance for interrogation.
Su Hongchen’s frown deepened. The thought of what kind of person would go to such extremes to kill him troubled him. What kind of hatred could drive someone to such lengths?
Soon, several train officers arrived. After they understood the situation and confirmed Su Hongchen’s military officer ID, they said, “We’ll place the bodies of these three individuals in the police carriage. When we reach the next station, you will go with the officers on our train to report to the Public Security Bureau. Don’t worry; we will reissue your sleeper tickets. You won’t have to pay anything extra, nor will you have to travel in hard seats or hard sleepers back to Shanghai.”
“Thank you,” Su Hongchen nodded at the officers before returning to the compartment. The onlookers were curious about the underlying calculations behind the incident, but given that it involved enemy agents, they couldn’t even ask questions. Once everyone dispersed, Su Hongchen closed the compartment door.
Su Xiaoxiao immediately sat up straight, looking at him intently. “Brother, will getting off at the next station affect our return home?”
“It won’t. We just need to briefly explain what happened and hand over the situation to the local military. Investigating the case isn’t our job; the higher-ups will send people to handle it. If there are any issues, they’ll come to Shanghai to find us,” Su Hongchen replied, shaking his head.
“But if they come to Shanghai to find us, won’t Mom and Dad find out?!” Su Xiaoxiao bit her lip, a look of distress on her face.
Su Hongchen didn’t want to worry their parents because of his job, but it was clear that they could no longer keep this from them. “Even if they don’t come to Shanghai to ask us about the situation, we still have to inform our parents about the investigation. It’s better to give them a heads-up so they’re not blindsided by any schemes.”
