Chapter 32
Since he could remember, his father had always used the excuse that he was the team leader to prevent his mom from suffering any grievances from the people in the production team. Now that he had grown up and settled into a peaceful life, did he have to let his little educated youth continue to suffer because of this insignificant position of team leader.
“He’d be better off not being the team leader at all,” Jiang Yexun gritted his teeth and complained bitterly.
Su Xiaoxiao saw him like this and originally wanted to offer some advice. However, she remembered the events of her previous life, her mother-in-law’s unexplained death, and Jiang Yexun’s subsequent lack of contact with his far. She decided to keep her words to herself. Her mother-in-law’s death must have had hidden reasons. She didn’t know anything about it, so she refrained from offering advice.
“When we get there later, let me talk to your father myself,” Su Xiaoxiao’s long eyelashes fluttered like two small brushes, sweeping across Jiang Yexun’s heart continuously. Although Jiang Yexun found that everyone in the Jiang family, except for his mother and sister, seemed to bring trouble, he still couldn’t bear to reject this sweet little educated youth.
“If anyone says anything bad, don’t worry; I’ll definitely stand by your side,” Jiang Yexun patted her head and admonished her with concern.
A hint of soft charm flickered in Su Xiaoxiao’s bright eyes due to this contact, arousing an irresistible sensation that quickly spread throughout her entire body. Almost instinctively, she straightened up, pressed her head against the man’s broad palm, and rubbed it gently.
However, her rationality immediately returned in the next second. She moved her head back, creating some distance between them. Then, with a pout on her face, she complained like an aggrieved little frog, “Don’t use the hand that touched the food to touch my hair. I washed it today, and I really don’t want to wash it again these next few days.”
Jiang Yexun looked at the disdainful look in the young girl’s eyes and found it both amusing and exasperating. Hadn’t she been rubbing her head against him so eagerly just a moment ago? She pulled away as soon as she felt comfortable? He couldn’t let her be so heartless in the future when they shared a bed.
Su Xiaoxiao noticed Jiang Yexun’s dangerous and somewhat frightening gaze fixed on her, and her guilty eyes darted around nervously. “Anyway, if I’m bullied when I go to your house, you must stand on my side. Although the educated youths haven’t built houses in the village yet, your father already mentioned on the first day we arrived that if anyone wants to build a house, they can go talk to him. If your two elder brothers and sisters-in-law make things difficult for me today, I won’t endure it and will seek justice.”
Su Xiaoxiao said this confidently. Seeing her like this, Jiang Yexun smiled contentedly. “Okay, my little educated youth is the toughest. Nobody can bully you.”
He comforted the girl by treating her like a child. When they finished eating and left the kitchen, the other educated youths who had just finished eating in the educated youth dormitory immediately noticed the two of them cuddling and cooing at each other. Although they sat at the same table to eat, there was a gap of at least a meter between them. However, this didn’t hinder the sweetness between them which made people unable to help but smile.
The other educated youths’ gazes then fell onto the bowls in front of them. The plump dumplings in their bowls caused their mouths to water, even though they had just finished eating. Some female educated youths even secretly thought that marrying someone from the production team might not be a bad thing. At the very least, they would have help with chores and get to eat delicious food. And if they were ever bullied, there would be someone to stand up for them.
Su Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yexun felt a little embarrassed under the intense gaze of the other educated youths. They both lowered their heads and focused on eating their dumplings, but they also knew how to maintain some distance from each other. They only relaxed when everyone had returned to their rooms.
However, it was getting late, and they didn’t know how long they would take to discuss building a house at Jiang’s home. Su Xiaoxiao’s speeded up, but in the end, she couldn’t finish the remaining dumplings. She pushed them all in front of Jiang Yexun.
“Why are you eating so little?” Jiang Yexun frowned. He hadn’t counted, but it was obvious that the little educated youth hadn’t even eaten ten dumplings.
“I have a small stomach, and this is already a lot for me,” Su Xiaoxiao rubbed her slightly bulging stomach. However, Jiang Yexun didn’t believe her at all.
“You ate more at lunch,” he pointed out.
“Food looks more delicious at noon,” Su Xiaoxiao’s words rushed out like a runaway train. Realizing what she had said, she hurriedly covered her mouth. Then, she uncovered it again, appearing unashamed. She looked back at Jiang Yexun.
“To be honest, it did taste better at noon.”
Jiang Yexun, thinking about the boiled eggs they had shared at noon, felt a heat rising behind his ears. “Indeed, it tasted even better at noon.”
In their memory, those were the most delicious delicacies in the world. They had willingly shared them, bite by bite. Even if they had been fed poison, it would have been the most delectable dish in the world.
Su Xiaoxiao, under Jiang Yexun’s intense gaze, blushed and hurriedly ran back into the house, her little face flushed with embarrassment. She didn’t stop until she was out of sight.
It wasn’t until she completely disappeared from view that Jiang Yexun picked up his bowl and quickly finished the remaining dumplings. Su Xiaoxiao returned to the room to get the gifts she had prepared and then rejoined Jiang Yexun in the yard.
As they walked towards Jiang’s home, they met many people from the production team along the way. They even encountered some teasing from some aunties. They both felt exceptionally happy. However, this good mood lasted only before they entered the Jiang family’s courtyard.
As soon as Su Xiaoxiao entered the yard, the three mischievous kids, who had been playing around with wooden sticks, immediately pointed at her with their sticks.
“We know you! You’re the educated youth from the city! You’re a bad woman; you stole all the delicious food from our house!”
The oldest one had a childish face filled with disgust towards Su Xiaoxiao.
