“Are you all right? When the Dong family saw us, they acted like mice running from a cat. What about the Pan family? They spread rumors—surely the police won’t just let them go?” Mr. Su asked, looking back at his daughter.
Su Xiaoxiao proudly raised her chin. “I think they were incited by someone, probably spies who want to harm my brother. That’s why they’ve been detained for investigation.”
Mr. Su and Su Hongchen were stunned, not expecting her to make such a leap. However, after a brief moment of surprise, they shook their heads with a smile. “You really know how to use the situation to your advantage. I bet the Pan family is scared stiff.”
“They deserve it,” Su Xiaoxiao said with satisfaction.
Mr. Su then looked at Jiang Yexun and He Xingzhi. “Thank you both. If it weren’t for you, Xiaoxiao and her mother would have been bullied by those families.”
“Xiaoxiao is my girlfriend, and Aunt Guo is my future mother-in-law. Protecting them is something I should do. There’s no need to thank me,” Jiang Yexun replied modestly.
Mr. Su was even more pleased with Jiang Yexun’s response. “Your attitude is great. Let’s head back for lunch.”
As they walked back together, Su Hongchen frowned and asked, “How come you all came over at noon?”
Although he felt Jiang Yexun was overly attached to his sister, he was reliable in his work. It was unusual for him to come over so quickly after saying he was checking on the steel.
“I got a tip at an underground casino. A man from the steel plant named Wan, supposedly from the security department, suddenly came into a large sum of money last month. In three days, he lost 500 yuan. Considering he only has 5 yuan for pocket money each month and usually plays small games like cards or mahjong, it’s unusual that he was gambling so heavily,” Jiang Yexun explained. He had spent a few hours in the casino that morning and obtained useful information.
Mr. Su and Su Hongchen’s expressions turned serious.
“Our security department’s head is named Wan Hongfa. He’s always been dedicated to his family, handing over all his salary, and doesn’t smoke or drink. Why would he gamble, especially in an underground casino?” Mr. Su immediately relayed the situation.
Su Hongchen looked at Jiang Yexun and asked, “Where is this underground casino?”

Mr. and Mrs. Su looked anxiously at Su Hongchen.
Su Hongchen immediately reassured them, “Don’t worry, I have over a month of leave. I’ll make sure to track down everyone involved.”
“What about your unit? Won’t they get involved? Ordinary people like us can’t handle them,” Mrs. Su said urgently.
“The unit’s leaders are investigating as well. However, the mastermind cleans up traces very well. Every time we get close to a lead, they silence the witnesses. This time, I’ll inform my unit in advance to help keep an eye on things and prevent further silencing,” Su Hongchen said quickly.
“So when will they arrive?” Jiang Yexun asked unexpectedly.

Jiang Yexun pressed his lips together and explained, “I only dealt with the Pan family, not the Dong family. I plan to deal with them tonight.”
Originally, Jiang Yexun intended to act covertly but was worried about running into Su Hongchen’s team. Hence, he revealed his plan in advance.
Su Hongchen’s expression darkened upon thinking of the Dong family’s actions. “I’ll join you tonight and head to the military district tomorrow morning.”
He couldn’t take action against the Pan family anymore, but he wouldn’t miss dealing with the Dong family.
