Chapter 341
“Why do you seem so flustered at home? Were you doing something you didn’t want us to find out about?” Mrs. Su’s gaze fell on Su Xiaoxiao, her brow furrowing as she sniffed the air.
Indeed, as a mother, she could tell with just a glance that Su Xiaoxiao had been up to something. Su Xiaoxiao blinked innocently and protested, “I wasn’t doing anything. I just went to the kitchen to boil some water and fill the thermos.”
Mrs. Su’s expression twitched slightly as she recalled her own bout of diarrhea that morning, almost making her collapse. She was about to advise Xiaoxiao to avoid such tasks in the kitchen in the future but decided that it was just boiling water and not a big deal. She smiled and shook her head in amusement.
“Right, just boiling water. You look so guilty though,” Mrs. Su said, half-amused and half-annoyed. She glanced at the time and then went to the kitchen.
Su Xiaoxiao followed eagerly, but Mrs. Su stopped her. “You don’t need to help. Go and spend time with Jiang and his mother.”
“I’m not trying to help with cooking; I just want to bring them some tea,” Su Xiaoxiao explained quickly, though she felt quite aggrieved. If only the water from the fountain hadn’t caused such an upset, it wouldn’t have been such a mess.
Mrs. Su didn’t stop her from simply making tea. However, when she saw Su Xiaoxiao pull out a red can from inside the kitchen cabinet, her lips twitched in disbelief. Still, she made no move to interfere.
After Su Xiaoxiao made four cups of tea and proudly placed them in front of them, she leaned on the table, her chin resting in her hands, watching them expectantly.
They had originally intended to chat first, but under her intense gaze, they picked up their cups and took a sip. The tea was so hot it nearly burned their chests, but fortunately, no one choked.
Just as they were about to set their cups down, Su Xiaoxiao’s eager eyes scanned them continuously. They quickly realized that talking could wait, so they blew on their tea and sipped it slowly.
It wasn’t long before Su Hongchen noticed something off about the tea. “Xiaoxiao, where did you get this tea?”
“From the cabinet in the kitchen,” Su Xiaoxiao answered confidently.
Su Hongchen rubbed his temples in frustration. Jiang Yexun immediately spoke up, “Is there something wrong with the tea? I can get someone to buy some for you.”
“Don’t always rush to solve her problems!” Su Hongchen said, both exasperated and amused, glaring at Jiang Yexun.
“Xiaoxiao is my fiancée, and I’m going to marry her soon. Of course, I have to take care of everything for her,” Jiang Yexun declared with determination.
Su Hongchen, looking at Jiang Yexun’s earnest expression, found it hard to believe that this was the same person who had expertly extracted useful information from people at the casino earlier that afternoon. To his sister, Jiang Yexun seemed like a lovesick fool who would do anything for her.
Seeing Jiang Yexun still concerned, Su Xiaoxiao quickly reassured him, “Don’t listen to my brother. It’s nothing bad. It’s just some tea that’s hard to come by. Dad usually saves it for special occasions.”
“If it’s Pu-erh tea, I can ask my friends to send some good quality ones from our own stash,” Jiang Yexun offered.
“It’s really nothing. If they drink it, they drink it. My brother is just teasing. Dad isn’t stingy; he won’t mind a bit of tea,” Su Xiaoxiao promised with a reassuring pat on her chest.
