Chapter 375
“I know,” Jiang Yexun replied coldly, nodding his head. Although he had anticipated this outcome, the thought of drifting apart from a good friend he had known for so many years still left him feeling uneasy.
However, Jiang Yexun wasn’t the type to dwell in negative emotions. Especially after being busy for so many days, he finally had a chance to cozy up with his little partner, so he was determined not to let his bad mood affect Su Xiaoxiao.
He even took a bowl of century egg and lean meat porridge, spooning it out carefully for Su Xiaoxiao. He would blow on each spoonful, afraid of burning her.
His cautious demeanor made Su Xiaoxiao’s cheeks flush bright red with embarrassment. Jiang Yexun swallowed hard, his eyes fixed on her, unwilling to look away for even a moment.
Feeling his gaze, Su Xiaoxiao became weak in the knees. She quickly finished the soup dumplings on her plate and dove into his arms.
“Yexun, were you trying to tempt me just now?” she asked, looking up at him with a beaming smile.
Her sweet and delicate voice nearly melted Jiang Yexun’s heart.
Leaning down, he gently kissed her rosy lips and then asked, “We haven’t had a proper time together in so many days. Have you missed me?”
“Of course I have,” Su Xiaoxiao nodded earnestly. Although she had been busy outside, Jiang Yexun was always on her mind.
After all, he was going to investigate a seedy underground casino, where anyone willing to take such risks was usually someone desperate for money, often at the expense of their lives. She couldn’t help but worry about Jiang Yexun’s safety.
If it weren’t for the fact that going to such a place was even more dangerous for her—where she could easily attract the attention of other bad people—she would have insisted on investigating herself.
“You little liar,” Jiang Yexun said, annoyed, lightly biting the tip of her nose.
“Hmm.” Su Xiaoxiao shrank back in pain, but Jiang Yexun tightened his embrace around her waist, not letting her escape.
Su Xiaoxiao, unwilling to back down, widened her eyes. “How did I lie? I worry about your safety every single day! Doesn’t that count as missing you?”
“If you really missed me, why didn’t you pay attention to me the last few times I went to your house?”
Though Jiang Yexun’s tone sounded playful, anyone could detect the hint of anxiety in his voice if they listened closely.
After all, it had been days since he saw his little partner acting less clingy than before, despite Mr. and Mrs. Su promising to marry him before the New Year. He still feared that Xiaoxiao might suddenly change her mind and not want to marry a rural guy like him, leaving behind the splendor of Shanghai to live a tough life at the Hong Feng Production Team.
But to be fair, Su Xiaoxiao felt wronged about this situation, too. She couldn’t control her body; after all these months, whenever she got close to Jiang Yexun, her legs would turn to jelly, and she felt like she wanted to cling tightly to him.
However, such an embarrassing thing was something Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t tell Jiang Yexun.
“It’s just that my parents are always watching! I can’t let them think you’re trying to take me away from them. How would you get along with my family then? Besides, I didn’t want to show too much how much I missed you. What if you became too focused on me and rushed things, making mistakes while investigating?”
Su Xiaoxiao poked her little finger against Jiang Yexun’s firm chest, then began to draw little circles.
Jiang Yexun was already a hopeless romantic, and with two reasonable excuses from his beloved girl, his mood shifted from gloomy to sunny in an instant.
He leaned down and gave Su Xiaoxiao’s cherry-red lips a heavy peck. The enticing scent that wafted from her made Su Xiaoxiao’s body instinctively lean toward him.
With her slightly parted lips glistening with moisture, Jiang Yexun’s breath quickened in response.
With a fiery gaze, they became attached to each other once more, their breaths intertwined.
Jiang Yexun’s kisses were fervent, as if he were trying to steal all the breath from the sweet girl in his arms. Su Xiaoxiao was equally eager, playfully chasing after him.
Jiang Yexun felt like he was about to lose his mind, his deep-set eyes reddening as he gazed at the sweet girl in his arms. However, not long after, Su Xiaoxiao was at her limit, wanting to pull back a little to catch her breath.
But Jiang Yexun seemed to sense it beforehand; one large hand gripped the back of Su Xiaoxiao’s head, gently applying pressure to block all her escape routes.
With no other option, Su Xiaoxiao had to give up the struggle, allowing Jiang Yexun to lead her into a deeper abyss of emotion.
Feeling Jiang Yexun’s excitement, Su Xiaoxiao squirmed anxiously. This made Jiang Yexun let out a low, raspy hum.
Su Xiaoxiao’s breath caught in her throat.
Seeing her reaction, Jiang Yexun chuckled softly and pulled back a bit. He reached out, using his thumb to gently wipe away the moisture from her glistening lips, his voice hoarse and teasing. “Are you scared?”
“I’m not scared!” Su Xiaoxiao pouted defiantly and squirmed again.
Jiang Yexun didn’t expect to tease the little girl in his arms and end up nearly driving himself crazy, with veins popping on his forehead.
But Su Xiaoxiao seemed to have found a new source of joy and wanted to play more.
Jiang Yexun had no choice but to lift her up, letting her hang on him completely.
“You’re just trying to tease me! In a week and a half, we’ll be getting married. When that time comes, we’ll settle all the debts you owe me now, as well as the times you flirted with me without taking responsibility for it. We need to settle everything, principal and interest.”
Jiang Yexun pressed his forehead against Su Xiaoxiao’s and gave her nose a gentle peck.
Though his words were full of anticipation and temptation, Su Xiaoxiao felt a wave of guilt wash over her.
She clutched Jiang Yexun’s sleeve and playfully shook it, saying, “How about we wait until we return to Shanghai to settle things? It’s been so long since the previous matters happened. If we dig them up again, it might hurt our feelings.”
“You owe me so much; you think you can wipe the slate clean just like that? If I let you get your way, that would truly hurt our feelings! After all, I’ve been looking forward to this day for so long,” Jiang Yexun replied, a meaningful smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
