Chapter 434
Su Xiaoxiao watched as Jiang Yexun’s tanned skin blushed, making her smile even softer.
“Husband…” She reached out and wrapped her arms around Jiang Yexun’s waist.
“Ahem, since we’re going downstairs for breakfast, let’s get ready quickly,” Jiang Yexun coughed lightly, pulling a nearby shirt over Su Xiaoxiao.
Su Xiaoxiao tried to protest, but Jiang Yexun’s long arms and quick movements left her no chance. Before she knew it, she was bundled up like a ball and placed on the floor.
He dressed himself even faster, smoothing out the wrinkles in his coat before walking over to Su Xiaoxiao. He took the comb and hair tie from her hands, as her hair had turned into a mess from last night’s activities.
With a tenderness that seemed afraid to pull too hard, he carefully combed her hair. When he finished braiding two pigtails, Su Xiaoxiao looked in the mirror with satisfaction.
“Your skills are getting better and better!”
“As long as you like it,” Jiang Yexun said gently, looking at her with warmth in his eyes.
Of course, Su Xiaoxiao liked it. Who wouldn’t love having a husband who treats them like a cherished child?
She slipped her soft hand into Jiang Yexun’s large palm, and they went downstairs hand in hand. Aunt Guo had just finished plating the dishes and was about to pack some food in a thermal container to take upstairs, but she heard someone entering the kitchen.
Turning around, she smiled affectionately at the newlywed couple, who were cuddled up close.
“Xiaoxiao, why did you come downstairs? Don’t you want to rest a bit longer? It’s just the three of us here; you can do whatever you like,” Aunt Guo said, worried that Xiaoxiao felt pressured as a new bride to not laze around all day, and quickly assured her.
“Don’t worry, Mom, I’m not shy with you. I’ve slept so long already; I don’t want to stay in bed any longer. I feel like my bones are starting to stick together,” Su Xiaoxiao said, letting go of Jiang Yexun’s hand to go over and wrap her arms around Aunt Guo’s.
Her sweet gesture made Aunt Guo’s face break into a wide, toothy grin.
“Alright, alright. Hurry and eat, then let Yexun take you for a stroll afterward. We don’t have much to do right now, so make the most of it before the New Year festivities,” Aunt Guo said, leading Su Xiaoxiao to the dining table.
Jiang Yexun filled their bowls and sat closely beside his young wife. Aunt Guo gave him a look and said, “Why are you sitting so close? Xiaoxiao won’t be able to reach the dishes.”
Blushing, Su Xiaoxiao nodded in agreement, just about to suggest that he sit a little farther when Aunt Guo continued, “Don’t sit on Xiaoxiao’s right side; sit on her left so you don’t get in the way of her eating.”
Su Xiaoxiao’s eyes widened in surprise. She was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but Jiang Yexun had already moved his chair to her left. To discourage any protests, he quickly placed a piece of braised pork in her bowl.
“Let’s eat first. It’s cold in winter, and the food cools quickly,” he murmured gently.
Looking at the meat in her bowl and thinking about how cold and greasy it would get if she waited, Su Xiaoxiao decided not to argue. Jiang Yexun continued to add various dishes to her bowl, with Aunt Guo helping him keep up the pace.
“That’s enough; I’m almost full!” Su Xiaoxiao said, noticing her bowl never seemed to empty and quickly tried to stop them.
“It’s fine. If you can’t finish, let Yexun help,” Aunt Guo said cheerfully.
Though Xiaoxiao was very pretty, Aunt Guo thought she was far too skinny, with an almost fragile look about her. She couldn’t even imagine what her daughter-in-law would look like bundled up in thick cotton clothes out in the snowy Northeast.
