Chapter 440
“Mom, Dad, we’re back.” Su Xiaoxiao stood outside the door and gently knocked on it.
In the next moment, the door was opened.
Mrs. Su’s gaze swept over her from top to bottom several times, and only then did she pull her into her arms with red eyes. “Good, good, good, hurry inside.”
Their precious daughter, who had been cherished in their palms, had now completely become someone else’s wife. The thought that their beloved “sweetheart” would one day become someone else’s mother made Mrs. Su feel indescribable.
But today was the return visit, so she couldn’t show too much sadness. She had to hold back the tears and led Su Xiaoxiao into the house.
The remaining Mr. Su and Su Hongchen both glared fiercely at Jiang Yexun with cold eyes.
“Dad, Brother.” Jiang Yexun politely greeted them, carrying the items inside as well.
“Hmph!” Mr. Su snorted unkindly, but he didn’t actually intend to make things difficult for him.
Jiang Yexun secretly breathed a sigh of relief when he saw their backs.
Once inside the living room, Mrs. Su pulled Su Xiaoxiao to sit on the sofa, then quietly asked, “How’s your health? Is everything okay?”
Although Jiang was indeed very good to their sweetheart, he couldn’t ignore the fact that his tall and muscular physique, typical of a northern man, made marital harmony a bit challenging.
“It’s fine, I don’t feel anything anymore.” Su Xiaoxiao’s face turned red, and she lowered her head, muttering in a soft voice.
“Don’t feel anything anymore?” Mrs. Su was surprised.
That shouldn’t be! Could it be that Jiang, while looking strong on the outside, was actually a bit weak inside?
Mrs. Su instinctively glanced at Jiang Yexun. The scrutinizing look made him think that his mother-in-law already knew about the incident where he might have hurt Xiaoxiao. He pursed his lips and his ears turned red from embarrassment.
Finally, he stiffened his resolve and called out, “Mom.”
“Mm, have you had breakfast? If not, I’ll heat something up for you.” Mrs. Su stood up, ready to go to the kitchen.
Su Xiaoxiao quickly stopped her, “Mom, we’ve already eaten. Don’t worry about it. Let’s just sit down and chat.”
“Alright. We’ll have lunch at your grandparents’ house, and then we’ll come back for dinner. Later, we’ll bring the things with us to the small courtyard.” Mrs. Su listed the arrangements for the day.
“Mom, what do you think of my two sisters-in-law, and my little nephew and niece? How are they?” Su Xiaoxiao expressed some concern about her new relatives she hadn’t had much chance to interact with.
After all, in her previous life, after her grandparents passed away, her two cousins had met with misfortune in the countryside. She heard that her sisters-in-law had remarried, and after that, there was no news of them. Her uncle and aunt had gone searching for them multiple times but had also passed away due to an accident.
“I think your two sisters-in-law are quite good. They’re cultured and well-behaved girls. The kids are also very cute, not at all unruly. In fact, they’ve been taught to be polite. They’re all quite good-looking, just like your cousins and sisters-in-law, they’ve inherited their best traits.” Mrs. Su smiled as she thought of the children.
She thought that if her daughter and son-in-law had a child, it would surely be even cuter. But as soon as this thought entered her mind, Mrs. Su quickly pushed it out. Her daughter was still young, and thinking about having children was not necessary.
“Mom, let me and Shaoheng help with tidying up the things.” Su Xiaoxiao saw her mother sneak a glance at Jiang Yexun and move closer to her, as if wanting to say something, so she quickly changed the subject.
“You don’t need to help with the things. I’ve already packed them with your dad. Just a few sets of clothes, some books, and toiletries.” Mrs. Su, seeing her change the topic, lightly tapped Su Xiaoxiao’s head.
Su Xiaoxiao secretly stuck her tongue out, “By the way, Mom, Yexun and I discussed that we’ve brought so much stuff this time. We thought we’d see how much we can actually eat, between us and Grandpa and Grandma. If there’s too much and we can’t finish it, we’ll sell it when the prices are good over the New Year.”
“Your grandparents’ place will need more, with eight mouths to feed. But even so, the amount of food you’ve brought back is still too much.” Mrs. Su agreed with her suggestion.
They really couldn’t eat everything, and if they kept it for too long, it would spoil. Also, it wasn’t right to wait for another year and then sell it when the freshness had worn off.
With this in mind, Mrs. Su got up and started going through the two baskets Su Xiaoxiao had brought back last time, plus the things Jiang Yexun had sent. She picked out items like baby formula, canned food, and wheat milk that were suitable for children.
She also took out cured meats, sausages, and a jar of braised beef.
Su Xiaoxiao helped pick through the items as well, and finally, they packed a large basket.
“This should be enough. If there’s more, it won’t stay fresh for long.”
Mrs. Su was about to get up, but Jiang Yexun hurriedly reached out to support her.
Once she stood firm, Mrs. Su smiled at Su Xiaoxiao, who was about to speak but hesitated, and said, “Adults understand these things. If we eat meat every day, we know it’s because we’ve received a lot of gifts. But your little nephew and niece have just returned from the countryside. If they’re suddenly fed big meals every day for several months, and then one day it stops, they won’t handle it well. If they start throwing a tantrum, it will take a long time to calm them down, and they might feel secretly wronged.”
