Grandpa Gu and Granny Lin looked at her fondly, their eyes filled with love and indulgence.
But after chatting for a while, they noticed that Jiang Yexun still hadn’t come down, which made them a bit curious.
“Where’s Yexun? It’s rare not to see him with you today. Is he busy with something?” Granny Lin asked, a little worried.
She didn’t want to be too forward, but she couldn’t help but feel it was odd that he wasn’t around. She had become so accustomed to seeing him follow Su Xiaoxiao everywhere.
Su Xiaoxiao’s face immediately turned bright red when she heard the question.
She raised her hand to touch her hot cheeks and then pouted a little in a teasing manner. “Grandma, Yexun had something to do today, so he left really early.”
“Huh? Did he leave before 7:30? It’s so cold outside. What could he possibly be busy with?” Granny Lin furrowed her brows, looking concerned.
Su Xiaoxiao naturally understood her implication but just smiled and explained, “He’s the type to get things done early. He feels more at ease when everything is sorted out. He’s different from me; I tend to procrastinate, but if he knows there’s something to do, he’ll do it right away.”
“You’re just teasing Yexun, aren’t you? You don’t do anything, and then he finishes everything in no time.” Granny Lin poked Su Xiaoxiao on the forehead with a sigh.
Su Xiaoxiao proudly shook her head. “What can I do? Couples need to complement each other, right? That’s why I was extra careful in choosing this husband.”
“Go ahead and brag! Yexun is clearly smitten by you,” Grandpa Gu teased from the side with a smile.
Su Xiaoxiao agreed, but she felt too shy to admit it. Instead, she wrapped her arms around her grandparents and changed the subject.
“By the way, today is the eighth day of Spring Festival. When will my cousin and his wife be back to work?”
“They said if things are going well, they’ll be back for the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth, and start work on the sixteenth. If things aren’t going well, they should be back in a couple of days,” Granny Lin said, her face turning a bit grim as she spoke.
Su Xiaoxiao immediately became concerned. “So, is the situation with my older cousin really bad?”
“The maternal family of cousin’s wife heard that your cousin got a job, and she’s asking him to give her ten yuan every month for her parents. She says she has the obligation to support her parents,” Granny Lin replied, clearly furious.
“Each of my grandsons has two kids to raise, and the daughter-in-law doesn’t work, so it’s just one person feeding four mouths. How can one salary cover all that?”
