Chapter 502
Su Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, deciding not to think about the matter anymore. However, after holding it in for a while, her curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn’t help but ask, “So, what happened in the end?”
“Well, the head chef at the state-owned restaurant definitely lost his job, and his wife was arrested. She’s looking at at least ten years in prison. When I left the police station earlier, the husband was already demanding a divorce, and the wife’s relatives were right there with him,” Mr. Su replied, recalling the chaotic scene, and his expression tightened.
“What were her relatives doing there? Trying to stop the divorce?” Su Xiaoxiao immediately felt a surge of anger.
“No, it wasn’t that. They felt that the husband’s family was too biased towards sons and neglected their daughter. They were worried that their granddaughter would have a bad life staying with her grandmother, so they insisted on taking the girl away. They also demanded that the girl change her surname. If the surname wasn’t changed, they would demand a quarter of the husband’s salary as child support,” Mr. Su explained.
Su Xiaoxiao hadn’t expected the situation to develop like this, and her eyes widened in surprise. “Wow, the girl’s maternal family is really something! How did they raise her to be like this?”
“The woman was already well-loved in her family. Later on, she saw the head chef’s job at the state-owned restaurant as a good opportunity—good pay and delicious food. And these kinds of chefs generally get some extra benefits too. But she didn’t know that her whole family was so strong-willed. She had never encountered anything like this, and naturally, she was completely controlled by them,” Mr. Su added.
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but think of his own naive daughter and, by instinct, glanced over at his son-in-law standing beside her.
Jiang Yexun, who had been entirely focused on his wife, suddenly felt a chill down his spine. Looking up, he met his father-in-law’s cool gaze and immediately straightened up, saying, “I would never treat Xiaoxiao like that.”
“Don’t worry, father-in-law,” Madam Guo chimed in from the side. “Not only would I never let Yexun treat Xiaoxiao like that, but if this brat ever dared to raise his voice at Xiaoxiao, I’d break his legs.”
“I know Yexun is a good boy. I’m just observing them normally,” Mr. Su coughed awkwardly, trying to explain himself.
He had only subconsciously thought that his daughter, being so innocent, could easily be taken advantage of. But his son-in-law, on the other hand, was very capable—he truly doted on his wife and didn’t mind indulging her in everything.
“So, what happened with that woman?” Su Xiaoxiao quickly shifted the topic back.
“Well, by this point, she was definitely listening to her family. The husband didn’t mind her taking the daughter, but he wouldn’t agree to changing the girl’s surname or paying the child support. He only said that each side could raise one child,” Mr. Su said, shaking his head.
Su Xiaoxiao frowned. “Well, just drag it out. After all, no one can force her to divorce if she doesn’t want to.”
She felt that these two should be locked in a deadlock. If the woman really did get a divorce, her husband, having been a chef for so many years, would surely have some savings and could find another job. He could even marry a younger and prettier woman. But instead, she was throwing everything away for a family like this.
“Even if the husband’s family doesn’t want to agree, they have no choice now. Things have already escalated, and the wife’s family would love it if they didn’t agree, so they could come and beat him up every few days. In the end, it’s all a family matter, and it will be resolved through mediation. The husband’s family knows this too, which is why they won’t leave the police station,” Mr. Su continued.
Mrs. Su, listening to all this, couldn’t help but sigh deeply. She glanced at her daughter and son-in-law, and, feeling concerned, reminded them, “No matter how angry you two get or how difficult the situation is outside, you must never do anything that harms the enemy while hurting yourselves, understand?”
