Chapter 548
Maybe it was the shock on Su Xiaoxiao’s face that caused Granny Hu, who was throwing a tantrum, to momentarily freeze.
“What are you staring at? You’re the one who caused my daughter and son-in-law to divorce and even tried to kill my grandson, you shameless woman!” Granny Hu immediately shot back, her voice filled with venom.
Jiang Yexun’s face darkened, and he quickly stepped in front of Su Xiaoxiao, his protective stance clear.
“Watch your mouth, old hag! Your son is about to die, and you still have time to spew filth!” he retorted coldly, his tone full of disdain.
Seeing that the Peng family was still trying to argue, he continued, “We only reported to the police because we were falsely accused. How were we supposed to know it was your daughter who did it? If you’re not happy about it, why don’t you go to the police station and make a scene there? Or are you like your daughter, thinking we’re easy targets to bully?”
Grandpa Zhang and Grandma Wang quickly added, “Stop slandering Xiaoxiao and Yexun here. Your daughter ruined our grandson’s future! If Peng Huijing hadn’t been so permissive with her child, if you Peng family didn’t have so much money to throw around, we could’ve stopped Hanyu from going down the wrong path much earlier. Now, you’ve done all this just to harm our Zhang family’s grandson and have gotten us all suspended. We’ve already cut ties with Peng Huijing, and we haven’t even gone to the Peng family to demand an explanation. We’ve been patient enough. If you keep pushing us, don’t blame us for settling this score with you.”
The Peng family members were momentarily stunned by these words.
“Old Zhang, both you and Zhiyuan were suspended?” Granny Hu asked in disbelief.
Her family had only been questioned and had to find ways to explain themselves to their colleagues and neighbors to avoid being the subject of ridicule. They hadn’t expected the punishment for the Zhang family to be so severe.
“Of course! Your daughter has ruined our family, and now you dare show up here to stir up trouble!” Grandma Wang was fuming, her fists clenched, wishing she could chase them away with a broom right then and there.
Peng Xuyan’s wife glanced around, her eyes darting with calculation before she confidently declared, “But all of this started because of these two outsiders. You kicked my daughter out but brought these two back to live here, clearly trying to make space for them. Who are these people that you Zhang family cares so much about them?”
Before Grandma Wang could respond, Su Xiaoxiao interjected, her voice sharp, “So, you’re telling me that you’ve come here after listening to Peng Huijing’s words, stirring up trouble to find out who my husband and I really are?”
The Peng family’s expressions changed, but they quickly sneered, “You really think you’re important? Why should we care who you two are? We’re just saying that, given your status, it’s hard to understand how the relationship between the Zhang and Peng families ended up like this!”
“Heh! Do you want me to believe that?” Su Xiaoxiao rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed.
Jiang Yexun patted her reassuringly, “Don’t waste your breath on them. Let’s just report them to the police and have them interrogated properly.”
Upon hearing this, the Peng family members immediately became agitated.
“Enough! We were just angry and said a few things, and now you want to take it to the police? Do you think the police station is your personal playground?” they yelled in frustration.
“Go ahead and say it. It’s up to you whether you admit that you’re being manipulated. If you want to talk, go ahead and talk to the police,” Su Xiaoxiao retorted, looking over at the guard standing by.
She wanted to borrow the guard’s phone to call the police, but just as she was about to make the request, she saw two military jeeps speeding toward the compound from a distance.
And in one of those jeeps, she spotted a familiar face.
