Chapter 95
“No, if you’re not injured, after you agree to my relationship with Yexun, I’ll bring him to meet our parents,” Su Xiaoxiao said with a mischievous smile, her eyes shining like a little fox.
“Your mind seems to work quite fast when it comes to his matters, even calculating against your own brother,” Su Hongchen said, not pleased, and gave her a side-eye.
Su Xiaoxiao sweetly giggled, “Well, you’re my brother! If you don’t help me, who will? Besides, I’ve already brought him here to pass your test.”
“You have such a silver tongue,” Su Hongchen commented, thoroughly swayed by his sister’s words.
“Alright, it’s getting late. You two should go back to the guesthouse and rest. You don’t need to come too early tomorrow. Whenever you wake up, that’s when you can come. I have people taking care of me here, so don’t worry,” Su Hongchen suggested.
After finishing the apple, he instructed the two to return to rest.
“Brother, is there anything you’d like to eat? I’ll have Yexun make it for you tomorrow,” Su Xiaoxiao said, as she straightened Su Hongchen’s bedding.
“Braised meat balls, crucian carp tofu soup, three-cup chicken, and sweet and sour pork,” Su Hongchen listed several meat dishes without hesitation.
He then cast a light glance at Jiang Yexun.
Su Xiaoxiao frowned in disagreement, “Brother, crucian carp releases heat. Your wound isn’t fully healed yet, can you really drink that soup? And during your recovery, can you eat such oily dishes?”
“I won’t eat it. I’ll have plain rice porridge,” Su Hongchen said stubbornly.
“If brother wants to eat it, so I’ll buy it tomorrow. Even if he doesn’t eat it, you should. You haven’t eaten well these past two days on the train, and you’ve lost weight,” Jiang Yexun said, looking at his beloved with concern.
Su Hongchen scrutinized his sister and furrowed his brow, scolding her, “Indeed, you’ve lost weight. How have you been taking care of my sister?”
“It’s my fault; I’ll do better in the future and make her some nourishing dishes,” Jiang Yexun admitted without feeling slighted and immediately promised to improve.
Su Xiaoxiao looked at them both with amusement and disbelief. “Why are you two making such a big fuss? Who said I have lost weight? I can’t fit into half the clothes I brought from Shanghai.”
“You’re still growing, and it’s normal for clothes not to fit every year,” Su Hongchen stated.
“Tomorrow, I’ll take you to buy new clothes,” Jiang Yexun added.
Both Su Hongchen and Jiang Yexun were in perfect agreement, not finding anything exaggerated about it.
Luckily, they were in a single-patient room; otherwise, their behavior would have drawn many bewildered glances.
“We’re not far from Beijing; taking the morning train gets you there in the afternoon. Tomorrow, I’ll have my comrade bring the cloth vouchers and money here. You can take Xiaoxiao to Beijing and buy nice clothes,” Su Hongchen said, glancing at Jiang Yexun.
Although he disapproved of the man’s intentions toward his sister, he noticed that the young man had a strong physique. With him around, his sister would not be bullied.
“No need. I have enough money and vouchers with me,” Jiang Yexun immediately declined.
Su Hongchen did not object and instead advised Su Xiaoxiao, “Then you should keep the money and vouchers for me. If you see something you like next time, go buy it yourself. When your clothes become too small, just change them. Don’t save us money, understand?”
“I understand, brother. You don’t need to worry about me. Get well soon,” Su Xiaoxiao reassured.
Realizing that her brother was testing whether Jiang Yexun could fulfill her expenses, she chose not to speak up to avoid raising suspicions. The few sets of clothing didn’t cost much, and both of them could easily afford it.
Once they left the room, Su Xiaoxiao looked back at the hallway. The long, dark corridor seemed like a gaping mouth, and her brother’s room appeared to hang by a thread, ready to be swallowed at any moment. Her heart began to race.
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Yexun stopped and looked at the petite girl who seemed off.
“Let’s come here early tomorrow. I think the nurses at the hospital will start changing the medication and IVs in each room around 6 o’clock. I want to come earlier to check on my brother’s condition,” Su Xiaoxiao proposed with a serious tone.
