Without another word or a backward glance, Charlene turned and walked away.
Moran Albright soon heard that they had gone to City Hall again. That afternoon, he tagged Thorne in their group chat: [@Thorne Heard you finally carved out some time for City Hall this morning? Seriously, how many times has it been? Are you two ever going to actually get divorced p>
Thorne didn’t reply in the group chat.
But Vesta saw Moran’s message instantly.
It was the first she’d heard of Thorne and Charlene going to City Hall.
Leah happened to be with her at the time and knew about the group chat Vesta shared with Thorne, Moran, and Granger Harden. Guessing it wasn’t a private conversation, she leaned over curiously.
Her eyes immediately landed on Moran’s message to Thorne.
Her face lit up. “He and Charlene went to get a divorce! I knew it! He definitely still cares more about you p>
Maureen and Rhoda had just arrived at Vesta’s office with afternoon tea and overheard Leah’s exclamation.
“Thorne divorced Charlene? Is it true?” Rhoda asked excitedly.
“It is!” Leah confirmed. “Moran just said so in the group chat p>
Maureen glanced at Vesta’s somber expression and walked over without a word. Rhoda followed. After reading Moran’s message, Maureen fell silent. Rhoda’s initial excitement faded as she took in Maureen’s reaction and reconsidered Moran’s words. Something wasn’bright.
It should have been good news. But Moran’s message indicated Thorne had gone that morning, and Vesta’s expression made it clear he hadn’t told her Furthermore, just because they went to City Hall didn’t mean t was Thorne’s idea. It was entirely possible Charlene had been pushing him relentlessly until he had no choice but to go.
Leah came to the same realization.
“I’m sure he wanted to do it,” she said quickly. “Mom, Aunt Rhoda, you can’t lose faith in Vesta p>
It wasn’t that they had lost faith in
Vesta. The real test would come after the mandatory cooling-off period ended. If Thorne continued to use work or other excuses to avoid finalizing the divorce, they would have their answer.
At that thought, Maureen’s gaze darkened as she clutched her coffee cup, saying nothing more.
Rhoda also fell silent.
