Chapter 797
Before he had time to dwell on it, Kelvin Scott suddenly turned to him. “I heard your Ms. Hawkins is going to be Dr. Lucas’s student.”
Dalton Ramirez snapped back to reality. “Really?”
“I just overheard Corinne Lancaster talking about it with Vesta’s cousin. Apparently, Dr. Lucas had a private chat with Vesta earlier. He was very impressed, and her becoming his student is practically a done deal.”
Like Raleigh, Dalton had noticed Dr. Lucas pulling Thorne Henderson and Vesta aside for a private conversation earlier. He just hadn’t known what they were discussing. Hearing Kelvin’s explanation, everything clicked into place.
Although Kelvin wasn’t in the Al industry, he knew exactly how much weight the title of ‘Dr. Lucas’s student’ carried. He couldn’t help but add, “Good for her. If she really becomes his student, her future is absolutely limitless.”
Dalton smiled, glancing toward Vesta with genuine happiness for her. “She’s always been exceptional.”
Meanwhile, on the other side of the room.
Ever since calling Charlene Ross and Stewart Ferguson over, Dr. Lucas had been eagerly discussing business with Charlene. He was paying an extraordinary amount of attention to her.
Stewart watched the exchange closely. When Dr. Lucas turned to speak to someone else, Stewart leaned in and whispered to Charlene, “Is he… trying to poach you?”
Charlene paused. “It feels like it.”
Stewart was speechless.
They weren’t the only ones who noticed; others had picked up on it too, including Vesta. But unlike the rest, Vesta realized that Dr. Lucas didn’t just want to hire Charlene—he was desperate to take her on as a student.
A suffocating wave of anxiety hit her. She gripped her wine glass so tightly her knuckles turned white. But then, she reminded herself that Charlene was already Kenton Wagner’s student. There was no way she would accept Dr. Lucas’s offer. That thought brought hera sliver of relief.
Still, as the night dragged on, Dr. Lucas’s attention remained entirely fixated on Charlene. He hadn’t cast a single glance in Vesta’s direction. It mean that even if he had been satisfied with Vesta earlier, he clearly favored Charlene now. Knowing that Charlene couldn’t steal the spot didn’t make the blatant favoritism sting any less.
After finishing his conversation, Dr. Lucas turned back, only to see Charlene and Stewart whispering intimately. He sighed inwardly and muttered to his assistant, “They’re quite close, aren’t they?”
His assistant understood the implication. “Yes, sir.” Even if they offered Charlene an irresistible deal, Stewart’s presence would undoubtedly make her hesitate.
Naturally, Vesta had also noticed the easy intimacy between Stewart and Charlene, Over the past few months, she had been keeping a close eye on Thome’s changing

close to another man, Vesta immediately looked at Thorne. But his expression was completely flat. He gave them a fleeting glance before looking away, entirely unbothered.
He truly didn’t care about Charlene anymore. He wasn’t faking it.
Vesta blinked in surprise, and then a slow smile spread across her face. The heavy
knot of tension in her chest vanished in an instant.
