Chapter 801
Stewart supported Charlene as they turned and headed for the stairs.
Granger, York, and Gaylord stood rooted in place, watching them go.
They weren’t the only ones watching. Vesta and Thorne had seen the whole thing unfold.
When the accident happened, Vesta had been looking right at Charlene. She hadn’t missed the frantic, desperate concern on the faces of Granger, Gaylord, and York as they scrambled to her side.
However, she knew Thorne hadn’t noticed any of it, as he had been deep in conversation at the time.
He only glanced over after hearing the commotion.
As she watched him now, he casually withdrew his gaze from Charlene and Stewart’s retreating figures and seamlessly resumed his networking, completely unbothered.
Vesta’s lips curved into a triumphant smirk.
Once Charlene was out of sight, York finally looked away.
Dalton walked over, about to speak, but an old family friend approached York, striking up a conversation. Dalton had no choice but to hold his tongue.
Moran Albright, who had been chatting nearby, hadn’t noticed Granger’s desperate sprint to the rescue.
Unaware of the details, he strolled up to Granger, looking at the mess of glass and Charlene’s disappearing silhouette. “What happened?”
Granger replied tightly, “A kid ran into a waiter. Charlene caught the crossfire and got a little banged up.”
Moran, who couldn’t care less about Charlene, just gave a dismissive, “Oh.”
Upstairs, a doctor examined Charlene’s ankle. It was just a minor sprain. Once she swapped her heels for flats, she could walk normally.
After changing her dress and touching up her makeup, she and Stewart headed back down.
Dr. Lucas rushed over immediately to check on her.
Hearing she was fine, a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. “Thank goodness, thank goodness.”
Charlene and Stewart smiled and nodded politely.
The Hawkins, the Spencers, and Corinne only found out about the accident after the fact.
Seeing Dr. Lucas fuss over her when she was clearly unharmed, Leah Spencer rolled her eyes. “She doesnt even have a scratch on her, and they’re acting like it’s a tragedy. Such a drama queen.”
Maureen Spencer and Henley Hawkins kept their mouths shut.
Vesta watched Charlene’s return. She glanced at Thorne, noting that he only threw
a passing look at the minor commotion before instantly losing interest again.
Knowing Charlene was safe, Granger, Gaylord, and York all breathed easier.
Gaylord immediately made a beeline for her.
Granger, however, stayed put.
He simply didn’t have a justifiable excuse to go fuss over her again.
York finally finished his conversation. Just as he was about to head over and say hi
to Charlene, Kelvin clapped him on the shoulder. “Where are you off to?”
York opened his mouth, but Dalton stepped right into his space, staring him down. “The person you like… is Charlene?”
York blinked, caught off guard.
“Huh?” Kelvin looked totally lost.
When Dalton’s words finally
registered, he burst out laughina
“Dalton you’re reading way too
much into this. There’s no way it’s
York cut him off. “Yeah.”
Kelvin’s brain short-circuited. His eyes practically bugged out of his head. “Her?
That’s how is that even possible?”
Dalton didn’t say a word.
When York had bolted toward
Charlene, he had felt a sinking
suspicion, but he had desperately
tried to convince himself he was
tried to
wrong. After all, Charlene was married-she didn’t fit the profile.
