Chapter 853
By the time Vesta got home, it was also around nine o’clock.
Seeing her walk in, Henley Hawkins asked, “Everything okay at the company?”
“It’s fine for now.”
But if the investors found out that Hawkins Technology’s issues were affecting Neural Nexus Tech, it wouldn’t be a minor issue anymore.
Henley knew full well that if the mess with Hawkins Technology wasn’t resolved soon, it would drag Neural Nexus Tech down with it.
He had been actively trying to negotiate with Axiom Flux Technologies, but they refused to loosen their terms.
And the damages Axiom Flux was demanding were so steep they couldn’t afford them even if they liquidated everything they owned.
If Thorne had their back, they would have a chance to bounce back. They would even willingly abandon Hawkins Technology. But Thorne’s end remained agonizingly silent…
After all these days, they still couldn’t figure out what Thorne was actually thinking.
Maureen Spencer spoke up, her tone steady. “Let’s wait a little longer. Since Thorne hasn’t officially broken up with Vesta, there’s still a chance. Besides, if he really wanted to end things, he would have done it already. He wouldn’t be dragging it out. The fact that he’s keeping quiet means there’s hope. Furthermore, I’ve heard that Secretary Henderson’s political rivals are constantly hunting for leverage against him. Thorne’s silence is probably a strategic move to protect his father’s career.”
After sharing her theory, she patted Vesta’s hand. “Don’t panic just yet.”
“I know,” Vesta replied.
She had actually been thinking the exact same thing.
That was the only reason she had managed to keep her composure until now.
Maureen’s logic was sound, and both Leah Spencer and Rhoda let out a collective sigh of relief.
…
The next day, after dropping Jasmine off at the Fencing Hall, Thorne personally went back to pick her up that afternoon.
But they didn’t go back to their own house; instead, they drove straight to the family estate.
They weren’t the only ones. Lloyd Henderson and his wife, Tiffany Henderson, and Terence Henderson had all returned to the estate as well.
This was the first time they had all seen Thorne since Dr. Lucas’s disastrous gala.
Irma Henderson’s expression was icy. “You’re back?”
“Yes, Grandma,” Thorne replied.
Because Jasmine was there, Irma gave him a shred of dignity and offered a curt acknowledgment.
Both Irma and Lloyd’s couple knew perfectly well that Thorne hadn’t lifted a finger to help the Hawkins family recently.
They also knew he had barely been in contact with the Hawkinses at all. If he had opportunists would have undoubtedly leaked the newsonline by now.
On that front, they had no complaints.
If Thorne couldn’t even weigh the severity of the situation, he wouldn’t be standing here today.
However, they also knew this didn’t necessarily mean Thorne had cut ties with that Hawkins woman.
If they had truly broken up, Thorne wouldn’t have brought only Jasmine to tonight’s family dinner. Charlene should have been here, too…
The more Irma thought about it, the more frustrated she felt.
Lloyd and his wife also frowned deeply.
But they wisely chose not to push the topic.
Tiffany had contacted Thorne the exact moment the scandal broke.
She was already well aware of the messy drama between the Ross, Hawkins, and Spencer families.
When the whole ordeal exploded
online, her main concern had been the potential fallout for the Henderson family. The only two things that had genuinely shocked her were the revelations that Charlene was one of Dr. Wagner’s star students and a co-founder of PrimeStar Technologies.
Thinking back to the moment she had seen the news, she still hadn’t fully processed
the shock. She had even called Thorne specifically to verify it.
Thorne’s only answer had been a simple, “Yes.”
Remembering that conversation, she looked at Thorne, then glanced at Jasmine playing by herself a short distance away. She couldn’t help but say to Thorne, have to admit, she’s actually pretty incredible.”
