Chapter 878
Jasmine took another step back, putting more distance between herself and Vesta.
“I don’t want to go out. I want to go home for dinner.”
Vesta offered a warm smile. “Okay, then I’ll come with you—”
“I want to go home by myself.” Fearing the woman wasn’t getting the hint, Jasmine looked her dead in the eye and repeated, “By myself.”
Vesta’s expression faltered. She took a step forward. “Jasmine_”
Before she could say another word, Jasmine’s driver smoothly stepped into her path. “Ms. Hawkins, please stop right there.”
Vesta looked past him at the young girl, trying again. “Jasmine—”
Jasmine ignored her. She simply turned, pulled open the car door, and slid into the backseat.
Seeing his passenger safely inside, the driver immediately got behind the wheel.
Vesta watched the car merge into the busy traffic and disappear, her lips pressed into a tight line.
Ever since Dr. Lucas’s gala, Jasmine hadn’t answered a single one of her calls or replied to her texts. Until now, Vesta hadn’t taken the silent treatment too seriously.
She truly believed that once she found the time to see the girl in person and coax her a little, everything would go back to normal.
But now…
Meanwhile.
Jasmine remained completely silent for the entire ride home.
When the kitchen staff finished preparing dinner, she dutifully came down to eat, then immediately retreated back upstairs to her room.
Thorne didn’t get home until nine o’clock that night. He headed straight upstairs and made his way to Jasmine’s bedroom.
The door was shut. He knocked gently, only pushing it open after hearing his daughter say, “Come in.”
Hearing the door open, Jasmine glanced over. Seeing it was her father, she calmly turned back to what she was doing. “What is it?”
Thorne stood in the doorway, choosing not to step fully inside. “Just wanted to check on you.”
“You’ve checked. You can leave now.”
Guessing that she wouldn’t be spending Thanksgiving Day with Charlene at the Ross family estate Thorne got straight to the point “Tomorrow evening, we’re heading to the main estate forgiving Day.”
“Got it.”
Thorne gave a short nod. “Get some rest soon.”
Jasmine didn’t reply. He quietly pulled the door shut and walked away.
Even as he left, Jasmine kept the encounter with Vesta at school entirely to herself. She didn’t breathe a word of it to Thorne.
A little while later, mulling over what her father had just said, she hesitated before picking up her phone and dialing Charlene’s number.
Charlene had just arrived back at the Ross family residence. Seeing her daughter’s name light up the screen, she answered immediately. “Jasmine?”
“Yeah, it’s me.” Jasmine sat up straighter. “Mom, Dad and I are going to the main estate tomorrow night for Thanksgiving Day. I won’t be going over to Great- Grandma Helena’s.”
Charlene had already anticipated this.
Hearing the confirmation didn’t particularly sadden her. She simply replied, “Alright, I understand.”
After a brief pause, she added, “I
ordered some custom Mooncakes a
few days ago, and there’s a box with
your favorite flavors How about l have someone drop it off for you tomorrow morning?”
Jasmine hadn’t expected her mother to order Mooncakes for her, and a spark of genuine joy flared in her chest But the feeling was fleeting as she quickly realized Charlene probably hadn’t ordered them specifically for her; it was just a convenient afterthought.
Still, she was pleased. “Okay. Thanks, Mom.”
Charlene seamlessly shifted the topic. “What are you up to? Did you shower yet?”
“Yes, I’ll be going to bed soon.”
“Good. Get a good night’s sleep.”
“I will. Goodnight, Mom.”
“Goodnight.”
With that, Charlene ended the call.
Jasmine checked the time, tossed her phone onto the bed, and hurried downstairs.
In the living area below, the Butler and Latonia were chatting. Before they could even greet her, Jasmine cut straight to the chase. “I want to order some Mooncakes. How do I do that?”
