Chapter 877
If they threw in the towel now, they wouldn’t just lose everything—they’d be buried under a mountain of debt.
They absolutely had to keep their grip on Thorne.
Maureen looked at Vesta. “Vesta, about Thorne…”
Vesta gave the same answer she always did. “I know. I’ll get in touch with him.”
Maureen nodded, saying nothing more.
She had always prided herself on knowing how to handle men and understanding how their minds worked. However… she had to admit that ever since Dr. Lucas’s gala, every single move Thorne had made had caught her completely off guard.
Even she was completely at a loss now.
After finishing her breakfast, Vesta headed to the office.
Things at Neural Nexus Tech were constantly hitting roadblocks, leaving her overwhelmed and frantic. She was right in the middle of a discussion when Leah Spencer called her. “Vesta, Thorne is back from his trip! He just attended the Henderson Group Product Launch. I saw the live video from the event.”
Vesta paused for a second before replying, “Okay, I got it.”
After hanging up, Vesta went online to check and saw that Leah was telling the truth.
Thorne was seated in the audience. The camera occasionally panned over to him, showing him looking as composed and untouchable as ever. It was as if none of the chaotic fallout from Dr. Lucas’s gala had affected him in the slightest.
She closed the video, grabbed her phone, and dialed Thorne’s number.
It rang once, twice, three times. It kept ringing until it automatically disconnected. Thorne never picked up.
A moment later, she tried again. Still no answer.
Gripping her phone tightly, she called Coy instead.
When Coy saw her name flash on the screen, he hesitated before answering. “Ms. Hawkins.”
“I saw the video from the product launch,” she said. “Could you tell me where Thorne and the team are having lunch today?”
“I’m sorry,” Coy replied.
Vesta pressed on. “Is Thorne heading back to The Henderson Group this afternoon?”
This time, Coy told the absolute truth. “I don’t know.”
Hearing that, Vesta didn’t push any further. “Thank you,” she simply said.
With that, she hung up the phone.
Later that afternoon, she drove over to The Henderson Group.
Just like before, no one stopped her from entering.
This time, the first person she ran into was Coy.
Coy didn’t look the least bit surprised to see her. He stated the facts plainly. “The
boss isn’t here.”
“He hasn’t been back all afternoon?”
“Correct.”
Vesta stopped in her tracks.
She used to think that if she just
waited at the office long enough t
Thorne would eventually cave and soften toward her But reality was proving that Thorne simply wouldn’t.
“Would you like to wait in the reception lounge for a bit?” Coy asked.
“No need.”
Vesta pulled her mask back up, turned on her heel, and walked away. On her way out, she spotted Josh as well.
Josh didn’t look surprised to see her, either.
After leaving The Henderson Group, Vesta didn’t head back to Neural Nexus Tech. Instead, she drove to a completely different location.
Once she arrived at her destination, she waited for a little while. Soon the quiet school grounds erupted with horse as little kids began streaming out of the front gates.
Unlike the other children who were practically running, Jasmine took her time strolling out of her classroom.
Just as she reached the school gates, Vesta stepped out of her car. “Jasmine.”
Hearing her voice, Jasmine paused. There was barely a flicker of emotion in her eyes as she gave a small nod.
Vesta walked over, reaching out for a hug, but Jasmine immediately took a step back. Vesta froze. Before she could say anything, Jasmine spoke up. “Is there something you need me for?”
Vesta forced a smile and reached out to gently ruffle the girl’s hair. “It’s been so long
since we’ve gone out to eat together. How about we grab a bite?”
