Chapter 841
Charlene called the Butler to check on Jasmine.
“Minnie is upstairs reading,” the Butler said. “Should I ask her to come down and speak with you?”
“No need,” Charlene replied.
As long as Jasmine was alright, she felt relieved.
After exchanging a few pleasantries with the Butler, she quickly hung up.
Because of last night’s events, the Hawkins and Spencer families were trending highly online. The news of Hawkins Technology’s downfall had also quickly spread across the internet.
Netizens were locked in heated discussions.
The moment Claudia received the news, she immediately dialed Thorne’s number.
The phone rang for a long time before someone finally picked up.
However, the person on the other end wasn’t Thorne, but his secretary, Josh.
“Mrs. Henderson, Mr. Henderson is currently in an emergency meeting-” Claudia’s tone was sharp. “Is he really in a meeting, or is he just avoiding my calls?”
“Um… Mr. Henderson has a tremendous amount on his plate right now. He truly is incredibly busy. This emergency meeting just convened, so it’s genuinely inconvenient for him to take a call. As soon as he’s finished, I’ll immediately let him know you have an urgent matter to discuss.”
Josh wasn’t lying when he said Thorne was overwhelmed with work.
Not only was Thorne’s workload heavy, but his phone had been ringing off the hook —especially after the scandal surrounding Hawkins Technology broke out.
Earlier, Thorne had turned his phone off completely.
In the half-hour since he powered it back on, Josh had lost count of how many calls Thorne had taken, and how many more he had fielded on his boss’s behalf.
These calls came from business partners, company executives, and others—
Without exception, they had all heard the news about Hawkins Technology and were calling specifically to dissuade Thorne from stepping in to help them.
So, when he saw Claudia’s name flash on the screen, he knew her motive was exactly the same as the rest.
With last night’s scandal involving the Hawkins and Spencer families still not fully suppressed, and now the crisis at Hawkins Technology, Claudia believed Josh when he said Thorne was busy.
However…
Claudia ordered coldly, “Go tell him right now.”
Naturally, Josh didn’t dare disobey Claudia.
He entered the conference room and pointed at his phone screen.
Thorne didn’t say much. He signaled for the others to continue, picked up the phone, and stepped out of the room. “Mom.”
“You should know what I’m going to say,” Claudia stated flatly. “Before me, the executives of The
Henderson Group and your othanet
companies have likely already called you. Keën suppressing the online news about the Hawkins and Spencer families, but you are absolutely not to intervene in the Hawkins family’s business affairs.”
“I know,” Thorne replied.
Claudia wasn’t entirely surprised by Thorne’s swift agreement. After all, this matter affected the interests of far too many people, as well as Lloyd’s political future.
No matter how much he loved Vesta, or how rebellious he wanted to be, there was a limit.
“Glad you understand.”
Claudia didn’t want to say anything more. Lloyd had already made everything clear.
She paused for a moment. “No matter how busy you are, make sure you get some rest. Don’t run yourself into the ground.”
“I know.”
“When you have time, bring Minnie back to the estate for dinner,” Claudia added. “Alright.”
Claudia hung up the phone.
Thorne handed the phone back to Josh and turned to re-enter the conference room.
Watching Thorne’s retreating back, Josh knew his boss was in a terrible mood.
He had witnessed Thorne and
Vesta’s relationship firsthand. Now
that the Hawkins family was in trouble, everyone was relentlessly pressuring Thorne Contents
Josh could certainly understand Thorne’s emotional state.
It was just…
Thinking about the Hawkins family’s situation, his own feelings were a bit complicated.
He truly never expected Vesta to come from such a background…
