Chapter 895
The Butler smiled warmly. “Wonderful. I’ll have the food brought up right away.”
With that, he turned and headed downstairs.
Thorne looked down at Jasmine, his voice low. “You really don’t want me to stay with you?”
Jasmine glared at him defiantly. “No!”
Sensing that the father and daughter desperately needed a moment alone,
Charlene leaned in slightly. “I’m going to step out and make a quick phone call,” she told Jasmine. “I’ll be right back.”
Jasmine gave a small nod. “Okay.”
Charlene turned on her heel and slipped out of the bedroom.
She didn’t actually have a call to make. Instead, she walked down the hall to the balcony, staring out the window for a few minutes. By the time she returned to the room, Thorne was gone, and the Butler had already arranged the dinner trays on the side table.
The kitchen staff had made a special pot of comforting soup for Jasmine. Alongside it were a few light, appetizing dishes, making for a surprisingly generous spread.
But the sickness had completely stolen Jasmine’s appetite. She barely managed a few sips of the soup before her energy faded, and she looked ready to drift back to sleep.
Since the girl was clearly exhausted, Charlene gently tucked her back into bed to rest.
Lying under the covers, Jasmine curled her small fingers into the edge of Charlene’s shirt. She looked like she wanted to say something, but sleep overtook her before she could find the words.
Charlene wasn’t hungry either. She picked at the food for a moment before pushing her plate away.
Jasmine’s fever still hadn’t completely broken. Not long after she fell asleep, her temperature spiked again. She tossed and turned, shivering one minute and sweating the next.
Charlene patiently wiped the sweat from her daughter’s brow several times. At one point, she carefully eased Jasmine out of her damp clothes and dressed her in a fresh set of pajamas.
Just as she finished buttoning the fresh shirt, Charlene turned around and froze. Thorne was standing quietly in the doorway.
When their eyes met, Thorne offered a brief nod, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Did you check her temperature?”
“I’m taking it now.”
“Thank you for handling things for now. I’ll take over for the second half of the night.”
Charlene shrugged, her tone indifferent. “Suit yourself.”
Thorne simply nodded. He didn’t say anything else, but he didn’t leave either.
Charlene stayed silent as well, taking her seat back on the edge of the mattress.
A heavy, quiet tension settled over the room.
After a few moments, the thermometer beeped. Charlene pulled it away and checked the reading. The instant she did, Thorne broke his silence. “What is it?”
“A hundred point two.”
“Alright. Good to know.”
He had likely just been waiting to make sure Jasmine’s condition was stable Hearing that the fever was slowly coming down, he glanced at Charlene. I have some things to take care of.” NovelPeak.org
Charlene didn’t respond, merely listening to the sound of his footsteps fading down the hall.

Charlene glanced over her shoulder and realized Thorne had returned.
This time, he stepped fully into the room.
He clearly knew the fever had broken. He looked at Jasmine, his voice gentle. “Are
you feeling uncomfortable anywhere else?”
Jasmine completely ignored him, refusing to utter a single word.
Thorne reached toward Charlene. “I’ll take over.”
Seeing Jasmine grip the blankets tight and glare at him, he added in a slightly firmer tone, “While you were sleeping, your mom was wiping your Sweat checking your temperature and changing your clothes. She’s been working hard.
Jasmine vaguely remembered being changed out of her damp pajamas. She also knew that, even when she was deeply uncomfortable in her sleep, Charlene had never left her side.
Hearing his words, she hesitated for a moment before looking at Charlene. “Mom, you should take a break.”
Charlene wanted to say she wasn’t tired, but she swallowed the words. Instead, she stood up and handed the bowl to Thorne.
