Chapter 150

“And even Kenneth got into a fight for her, like, totally risking his reputation… Who is she, really?”
“Did you notice? She actually looks a little like Kenneth The waitress could barely contain her excitement. “Could she be his sister? Maybe some secret daughter from the Gates family?”
The other girl’s eyes went wide. It was like they’d uncovered a huge secret.
…
Not far away, Charlotte had heard every word. When she caught the comment about her resemblance to Kenneth, she raised her brows and slowly looked up.
She paused for a few seconds, then reached for her phone. With a few quick taps, she searched: Kenneth.
Thousands of results popped up. Charlotte switched to the image tab and scrolled through the photos. There was Kenneth-no colored hair, no makeup, dressed neatly for once. Her pretty eyes narrowed.
Okay. There was kind of a resemblance.
Am I really that unattractive? she thought, not sure whether to laugh or cry.
Before she could dwell on it, the door swung open. A fresh, clean scent floated in on a gentle breeze. Suddenly, a broad, warm chest pressed close behind her, and strong arms moved as if to pull her into an embrace.
“Were you waiting long?” Anthony’s breath was warm against her ear, sending a shiver down her spine.
Charlotte glanced up at his arms, her look cool and calm. He caught on right away and shifted, choosing instead to hold her wrist gently. He offered a soft, helpless smile. “Let’s go home.”
Kenneth followed behind. When he saw how quickly Anthony backed down, he gave Charlotte a silent thumbs-up.
…
Anthony had been drinking, so he couldn’t drive. Hans was already waiting by the entrance, ready to take them home.
Kenneth had rushed over from
another event. He didn’t have his assistant or a car. When he spotted Anthony’s ear out front he naturally tried to slip into the back seat. He barely made it halfway before a strong hand grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him right back out.
“Not on our way. Get a cab.”
Seriously? They were going in the same direction. The route even passed Kenneth’s place first. How was it not on the way?
Anthony gave him a shove and then leaned down, shielding the top of the car with
his hand as he spoke softly to Charlotte. “Careful.”
“Okay,” Charlotte replied, her voice even as she slid into the car. Anthony followed her in.
The car door clicked shut-firm and final.
“Let’s go.”

Hans glanced at Kenneth, who still standing there in shock, and gave him a small, apologetic smile. “Sorry Ken enneth Then Hans hopped into the driver’s seat and hit the gas.
The car disappeared into the night, leaving Kenneth coughing in a cloud of exhaust.
It took him a moment to snap out of
it, and when he did, he was so angry he almost started cursing. He didn’t have his phone and there was no

supposed to get a taxi?
Anthony. And he actually wanted to get with his sister? Just wait until the DNA
results came out. Kenneth was determined to expose Anthony’s true colors to Lottie.
…
Inside the car, Charlotte sat quietly with her back against the soft seat and opened
her palm.
In the dim light, she could just make out a small tuft of blue hair resting in her hand. Kenneth’s, of course.
