Chapter 613

Saul froze for a second, surprised. “Donald, are you saying
“Finally, someone with real skills. Ask her if she wants to join The White Whale.”
“Yes, sir.”
Saul couldn’t help but think back. Didn’t Donald just say they didn’t take women on the team?
But Janie wasn’t about to back down. There were still two rounds left. Anything could happen. She told herself it wasn’t over until the last bell. What she didn’t expect was how much worse things would get.
The fourth and fifth rounds were brutal. Janie stopped caring about the rules. Every move she made went straight for Charlotte’s weak spots. When she tried to swipe at Charlotte’s face, Charlotte caught her wrist and, instead of letting go, twisted it hard and forced it down.
Janie collapsed on the mat, clutching her wrist, pain written all over her face. It really felt like her hand might be broken.
“Charlotte, you did that on purpose! You’re supposed to stop before hurting someone in kickboxing!”
Janie’s face was pale as she fired back. “You grabbed my wrist. You already won, but you still twisted until my hand almost broke. You broke the rules. You should be disqualified.”
It stung. She was a kickboxing champion, and now she’d lost to someone no one had ever heard of. The crowd was already snickering. How could she just accept this?
Charlotte clapped her hands and looked down at her, all innocent. “Come on, you can’t just make up stories because you don’t want to lose.”
There were medics waiting outside the training area. When they heard the noise, one rushed in with a first-aid kit.
Janie stood up, holding her wrist, and tried to walk over to the medic. Her legs felt numb and she accidentally bumped into Charlotte.
Charlotte just smiled, and when she brushed past Janie, her fingers touched Janie’s wrist for a split second.
There was a soft click. Suddenly, the pain faded away.
Before Janie had time to react, the medic was already by her side, checking her wrist. “You’re fine. No dislocation, the medie said after a moment. “Everything else looks normal.”
As soon as everyone heard that, they all started glaring at Janie.
“If you lost, just accept it. Why do you have to make things up?”
“Seriously. If the medic wasn’t here, some people might’ve actually believed Charlotte hurt you.”
“The match stands. Team 1 wins.”
Janie moved her wrist. It really didn’t hurt anymore. Just a minute ago, though… She shot Charlotte a deadly look. “Don’t get too full of yourself. This isn’t over.”
Charlotte put her hands in her pockets and raised her brows, her voice cool. “You really think I’m scared?”
“You”
Janie wanted to keep arguing, but Charlotte didn’t even bother to answer her. She just turned and walked away.
All Janie could d
do was slink back to
her team, surrounded by a chorus of
whispers and snickers She
watched frustrated, as Charlotte
went on to defeat the other finalists,
winning the entire kickboxing
competition.
On the other side of the field, Donald stood in the viewing area, a smile breaking
through his normally serious face.
“Pollard, bring her here,” he said
quietly, his eyes shining with
something close to excitement. This
girl had everything he was looking for even if her attitude was a bit wild. Once she joined The White Whale, he’d train her himself.
If she kept proving herself, she might even get picked for the next Reaver training
program.
Who would ever turn down a chance like that?
