Chapter 372

The young nurse had barely left when the manor’s owner burst into the room,
shaking so hard he could barely stand. He stumbled to the bedside, eyes locked on his son’s face as color slowly returned to those pale cheeks. Then, without warning, he dropped to his knees in front of Charlotte.
“Asclepius, thank you for saving my son. I’ll never forget what you’ve done for us.”
His voice cracked as he bowed, completely overwhelmed.
Charlotte was lounging on the sofa nearby, looking perfectly relaxed with one leg crossed over the other. She just gave a small nod, her expression unreadable.
“Of course.”
Jackson stepped over to help the trembling man back up.
“Stick to the prescription for a month. He’ll be fine,” Charlotte said, getting to her feet. She rummaged through her bag and pulled out a bank card. Her voice was quiet but firm. “Payment, please.”
The owner lit up, relief and happiness flooding his face as he quickly transferred the money.
“Asclepius, would you consider working here at Apex?”
Charlotte’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the notification. Eight hundred million, delivered. Her lips curled into a sly little smile. “Apex couldn’t afford me.”
Honestly, she wouldn’t be here if her lab didn’t desperately need that money. One appointment, eight hundred million. The man had probably given up half his fortune. No wonder so few could ever hire her.
“We’re done here.”
She slipped the card back into her bag, slung the strap onto her shoulder, and headed for the door without looking back.
Jackson and Adonis hurried after her, almost tripping over each other in their rush.
The three of them piled into the car, and just as they were about to pull away, someone in white sprinted across the driveway.
“Hey there, little nurse.”
Adonis spotted her and rolled down the window, grinning as he leaned his arm out. “What’s wrong? Can’t let us go just yet?”
“I, um The nurse glanced
nervously at the back seat, her voice
barely above a whisper. “I really
admire Asclepius’s skills. I was
hoping maybe could get a little
guidance?”
Charlotte was in the back, scrolling through her phone and studying some supplier documents. She didn’t even bother to look up.
The nurse’s shoulders drooped. She twisted the corner of her uniform in her fingers, biting her lip, then tried again, a little louder. “Asclepius
Charlotte finally glanced up, her dark eyes peeking out from under the edge of her cap. Her voice was cool and distant. “Were you talking to me? What do you need?”
The nurse’s heart skipped a beat, then started racing so fast she thought everyone could hear it. Her cheeks burned red. She was sure of
it now. She’d fallen for Asclepius at first sight.
“I really I really admire your work. I was wondering if… if I could get your contact
info? Just in case I run into any tough cases in the future.”
She rushed to add, “I promise I won’t bother you.”
Contact info? Charlotte barely gave out her number to anyone.
“Add him instead.” Charlotte nodded at Adonis, her tone flat. “If you need something, tell him. He’ll pass it along.”
The nurse eyed Adonis warily. His smile was way too bright to be trustworthy. Still, she reluctantly added his contact on social media.
“If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call, little nurse,” Adonis said, still grinning.
“Oh,” the nurse mumbled back, looking defeated. But when she turned to Charlotte, her whole face
lit up agam: “Thank you, Asclepius. I’ll work hard at my studies. Pwant to be just like you someday.”
Charlotte nodded. “Good. Let’s go.”
The car sped off, leaving a trail of dust behind them. The young nurse stood there,
stomping her foot in frustration, completely annoyed at herself.
