Chapter 487
Melissa couldn’t hide her smug grin. The satisfaction in her eyes was obvious.
“Oh? What about the Blair family?” she asked, pretending to sound casual.
That was what really mattered to her. How would the Blairs react to all of Charlotte’s scandals?
“They haven’t done anything either,” came the reply. “I think they’re just disappointed. They probably want nothing to do with her now.”
Disappointed? Perfect. That was exactly what Melissa wanted.
Genius artist or not, a family like the Blairs, with their spotless reputation, would never let someone with a messy past become the future lady of the house.
“Keep watching the internet. If the buzz starts dying down, stir things up again,” Melissa said as she applied her lipstick. She glanced at her reflection, giving herself a sly smile. “And make sure no one finds out who we are.”
“Don’t worry, Ms. Carter. The guy behind this is a top hacker. He said unless the world’s best hacker steps in, there’s no way anyone can trace your ID.”
Was he really that impressive? Well, someone had tried tracking her ID before, but he’d blocked them every time. For now, she’d trust he knew what he was doing.
“Oh, and I heard Anthony rushed back from Frostford,” Melissa added, her smile growing. “Push out even more news about Charlotte.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
As long as Anthony stayed with Charlotte, the scandals would keep coming. But it wouldn’t last much longer. Melissa was sure of it. She just had to wait for Charlotte to be kicked out of Anthony’s life.
Meanwhile, everyone at The Main Group was in a panic.
The company’s stock had been plummeting for hours. Cash flow was running out. The whole business was this close to breaking down, on the verge of bankruptcy.
“Dad, do you think this is because of Charlotte?” Olivia asked in a small voice, her brows knitted with worry.
She was scared too. If the company went under, how could she keep living like a spoiled princess?
“Of course it is!” Steven snapped, not even thinking about it. His voice was sharp, full of anger. “Who else could
it be? She’s a junx. Ever since she came back, nothing’s gone right for us
“Dad, maybe the best thing is to get Charlotte to come forward, admit she was wrong, and apologize to everyone,” Olivia suggested, thinking she was being smart. “I’m calling her right now.”
Steven was furious. There was no way he’d let the company fall apart because of her.
…
Charlotte was in the garden, crouched down and playing with 98K, when Shirley’s call came in.
“Your dad couldn’t get hold of you
so he called me.” Shirley said,
sounding nervous
“Charlotte,
sounds furious. I think you should stay away from him.”
“He’s just trash. Why would I be afraid of him?”
Charlotte’s lips curled into a sly
smile, her voice soft and raspy. “He’s probably so angry right now he’s
bec
about to drop dead. Should I be
the one to send him off
Besides, she still needed to take back what her mother had left with him.
