Chapter 501
What?
Apologize to Charlotte-the girl who tried to steal her boyfriend?
Melissa’s fingers curled tightly, her nails digging into her palms. She couldn’t help but let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “Forget it. I’m not done with Charlotte, not by a long shot.”
She barely got the words out when the lab door swung open.
Charlotte stood there, tall and relaxed, leaning against the doorframe. Her eyes were downcast, her whole presence cold enough to chill the air. “Ms. Carter,” she said quietly, her tone icy and calm, “what exactly are you trying to do? I’m curious.”
Seeing her, all the color drained from Melissa’s face. Her eyes went wide, her cheeks flushing and fading until she looked like she might faint.
Charlotte?
“What are you doing here? Who told you you could come in?”
Whatever confidence Melissa had was gone. Charlotte’s presence pressed down on her, leaving her pale and tense.
Melissa tried to edge toward the door, desperate to get out.
Charlotte blocked her easily, pushing her right back inside. She kicked the door shut, then started walking toward Melissa, slow and unhurried, her eyebrow arched in a cold little smirk. “This place? I come and go as I want. Who’s going to stop me?”
Melissa couldn’t find her voice. She just stared at Charlotte, eyes wide and full of fear. “What… what do you want?”
“What do you think I want?”
Charlotte picked up a glass bottle from the table and pressed it against Melissa’s cheek. Her voice was soft, almost lazy. “You went after my boyfriend and tried to ruin my life. Melissa, are you really not afraid of dying?”
Inside the bottle was sulfuric acid.
Melissa’s face went paper white. She didn’t even dare to breathe. Her voice shook as she pleaded, “Charlotte, if you hurt me, my family will never let it go.”
“Want to try me?”
Charlotte just laughed and loosened the top of the bottle. Acid dripped out, mixing with water on the floor, making a sharp hissing sound-just millimeters from Melissa’s face.
“No, please, don’t
Melissa finally broke, her eyes filling with terrified tears.
“Good. At least you know how to be scared.” Charlotte’s lips curled into a slow, mocking smile. “By noon tomorrow, I want to see a video of you online on your knees apologizing.”
“What?”
On her knees?
Melissa’s eyes shrank with panic. Her reputation was already in pieces. If she really had to kneel and apologize online, she’d be the laughingstock of Cabinda for the rest of her life.
“I’m letting you keep your life for
now. But if don’t see that apology video by noon tomorrow. Charlotte leaned in,
wing Melissa’s cheek a
light pat, her eyes dark and sharp. “Melissa, you can say goodbye to everything.”
The Carter family and the Blair family were both powerful. If Charlotte really hurt Melissa, Patricia would never be able to explain it to the Carters, and Charlotte didn’t want to put her in that position.
So, Melissa got to keep her miserable life—at least until noon tomorrow.
As for Olivia…
Just as Charlotte was thinking it through, her phone started ringing in her bag. She let go of Melissa, wiped her hands, and answered the call as she walked out.
It was Andrew.
“Charlotte, something’s happened at school,” his voice was urgent, breathless. “I heard they’re going to expel Olivia. Eleanor wants you back here right now.”
