Chapter 400

“Come on, let’s head back.” Anthony wrapped Lottie’s soft hand in his and started leading her forward.
But Charlotte just stood there, refusing to budge. She stared at their hands, her clear eyes lingering on their tight grip, a faint sadness coloring her pale cheeks.
“What’s wrong?” Anthony let out a quiet sigh and crouched down, his voice gentle as he tried to coax her.
Usually, all it took was holding his hand for Charlotte to follow along without a fuss. Tonight though, something felt off. She looked so small and lost.
Charlotte stayed quiet, eyes fixed on his hand for a few more moments. Suddenly, she took a step forward and pressed herself into Anthony’s arms, locking her arms tight around his waist, her cheek pressed to his chest. She clung to him, completely relying on his support.
“Want me to carry you?” Anthony’s hands found her waist, his tone soft and warm.
She said nothing, just buried her forehead against his neck, frowning in silent protest.
Got it. She wanted to be carried.
Anthony couldn’t help but smile, a little helpless and a little amused. He scooped Charlotte up and cradled her in his arms. Only when her frown relaxed did he finally feel at ease, carrying her back toward the main hall.
Watching them, Adonis rubbed his eyes hard, not sure he believed what he was seeing. “Jackson, did Charlotte just… act cute?”
Jackson didn’t even blink. “Seems like it.”
Adonis shivered. “Honestly, Charlotte acting sweet is scarier than when she’s in full assassin mode,” he muttered, feeling a chill run down his spine. “I really want to know what Anthony did besides looking hot to get her this docile.”
She was like a little kitten now. If anyone from the N Organization saw this, their eyes would pop out of their heads.
“Maybe Anthony didn’t train her Jackson cleared his throat, his face serious. “Maybe Charlotte’s the one who made the first move.”
He was pretty sure the name she’d called out during her sleepwalking episodes was Anthony’s. What he couldn’t figure out was how they met in the first place.
The next morning, soft sunlight slipped through the gauzy curtains, painting the big bed in gentle gold.
Charlotte opened her eyes and
noticed the empty space beside her. Her eyebrows drew together. She tossed off the covers, stretched little and walked over to the Balcony, pulling the curtains open like she always did.
She stilled for a second when she saw a patch of bare earth in the lawn below. Her gaze drifted to the doghouse, and she let out a playful whistle.
98K, the dog, glanced up at her, gave his head a little shake, then slunk back into
his house. Survival tip: staying away from Charlotte is the best way to live a long life.
Charlotte pressed her lips together, glancing from the grass to the dog. For a moment, she thought she remembered something. Had she done something bad last night?
After washing up, she headed to the living room. Anthony was standing by the big window, back to her, chatting on the phone with a smile. His suit made him look extra sharp and handsome.
“Morning, Charlotte.”
The maids snuck nervous glances at her, barely managed a greeting, and hurried away.
Charlotte frowned again. She was getting more convinced something had gone down last night.

lowering their voices. “We’ve still got
things to handle at the tab. Were
planning to head back today.
“Alright.” Charlotte didn’t argue. She sat down at the dining table and asked, as if it was no big deal, “So… what did I do last night?”
Adonis forced a smile. “Not much, really. You just jumped off the third floor, squatted in the yard pulling weeds, and wouldn’t let go of the dog
And, he thought to himself, she’d thrown him over her shoulder for good measure.
“Honestly, Charlotte, compared to the chaos you stir up at the base, last night you were basically an angel.”
