Chapter 382

The words had barely left her lips when the luxury sports car behind them suddenly gunned its engine, closing the gap in an instant. Charlotte’s sharp gaze caught the unmistakable shape of a sniper rifle propped on the car’s window.
Her eyes narrowed, lips curling into a daring, almost cocky smile.
“Hold on!” she called out.
Almost at the same time, a shot rang out. The sniper’s aim was dead set on their tires.
An M24? Is that supposed to impress me?
Charlotte arched an eyebrow and twisted the steering wheel sharply. The SUV spun around in a full circle, tires screeching, as she dodged the bullet by a hair.
The shot went wide.
No, not wide. She had just outmaneuvered it.
Hans sat in the passenger seat, frozen mid-action, gun raised but useless. He risked a glance at Anthony, whose scowl was thunderous. This had to be Anthony’s first time missing a shot with nothing blocking his view.
Anthony’s luck with Apex lately was just abysmal. Three times now, the same person had turned things upside down for him.
“Not bad,” Anthony grunted. He clenched his cigarette between his teeth, eyes as cold and sharp as obsidian, hands gripping the rifle tighter.
The M24, especially loaded with X Organization’s special bullets, packed a punch.
This time, the SUV wasn’t fast enough. A sharp crack and a section of the back window shattered, glass raining to the floor.
“Shit.” Adonis stared at the glittering shards by his feet, face pale. “Charlotte, be careful.”
Thank God the shot didn’t hit the driver’s seat.
A third gunshot came almost instantly, punching a deep dent into the car’s body. The harsh smell of gasoline filled the air.
One more hit like that and this car would blow.
Jackson and Adonis both picked up on the scent, frowning but keeping quiet. After all these years with Charlotte, they only had one belief: she could handle anything.
Just as expected, a fourth shot came screaming toward them. Charlotte read the timing perfectly and swerved, dodging again. The M24 only held five rounds. Four were gone, leaving just one.
“Jackson, take the wheel. Head for the bend up ahead,” Charlotte said, her voice low but steady She handed off the steering wheel pulled her own gun from her pocket, and turned to face the back.
She fired through the shattered window. The bullet slammed into the sports car’s door, tearing straight through and out the other side.
Anthony had been lining up a shot at their gas tank, but Charlotte’s return fire threw him off. His hand jerked, and his own shot went wild, nowhere near its mark.
He glanced down to see his coat ripped by the bullet a chill settling over his face. If
he hadn’t ducked, that shot would have torn right through him.
Her skills-her instincts and her aim-were on another level. He hadn’t seen
anyone like her in years. Was Apex really hiding someone this good?
All five shots from the sniper were spent.
The bend was just ahead, a slope of mountain ready to block the line of fire. If they made it past that, catching them would be a lot harder.
No time to reload. Anthony tossed his rifle aside and grabbed Hans’s handgun. He barely had it raised
before another came flying so
close it almost took out his eye.
Damn it.
Anthony squeezed the pistol, jaw clenched in silent rage.
The two sides stared each other down, five hundred meters of tension between them.
“No one fires. Overtake them and trap them at the cliff,” Anthony ordered, voice cold and clipped.
The window for a clean shot was gone. Their target’s car was already wounded, but if they shot now and hit the gas tank, the resulting explosion would catch everyone.
“Yes, Anthony.”
The other cars holstered their guns, slammed their feet on the gas, and surged forward, quickly boxing in the damaged SUV.
To their left, a sheer drop. To the right, a twisting mountain road. The only way out was to break through the Reaper Division’s blockade.
Right now, escape seemed impossible.
“Charlotte, what do we do?”
Jackson’s voice was tense as he watched the cars closing in and the cliff coming ahead. He and Adonis exchanged a quick look before both turned to her.
“Charlotte, jump out and head for the mountains. Jackson and I will cover you,”
Adonis urged, ready for whatever came next.
